I'm sure most of you here have seen my multiple threads on trying to get my 04 zx6rr running again, last thread I finally checked my compression and found it was way low, and that my intake valves weren't properly sealing. I'd decided to scrap the engine as it was past repairing, but I finally got around to dropping it out of the bike, pulling the head, and taking a couple of pictures for your enjoyment.

Needless to say, this is hilarious. I can't believe this thing ever ran with this much carbon buildup, no wonder I had zero power up top, the pistons and head are hardly recognizable.

And, to further my bad luck, here's a picture of the unfortunate event that on Thursday for me, I've been really sick the last week and drove home in some ferocious rain. I met a guard rail, it didn't end well for my baby.

As much as I loved this bike, I'm done with it. My next couple semesters are going to be rather excruciating and I'm not going to have time to travel back and forth from school to home to put a new engine in it and trouble shoot it, so she's just going to get parted out. It's a shame but, from what I've seen most special edition bikes really don't hold much excess value anyway :/

glad to hear you are okay from your rain incident.

You're also lucky your valves didn't hang open and detonate your engine

Thanks man, and honestly I would have preferred the engine just nuking itself, at least then I would have instantly known it was done for and not wasted going on 4 months diagnosing and playing with it...

Now I get to spend the rest of the day cataloging parts and starting a for sale thread....yay.....

But to everyone on the forum, thanks for all the help and support with this bike, if it wasn't for you I don't know what I would have done with it.

How many miles were on the zx6rr to make that much carbon buildup? Lol

My 6rr had something like 30k on her, granted some of that was sprocketed so it's not entirely accurate, but I'd expect over 25-28k on it easily. And I think the majority of the carbon was from the tear in the filter letting crud in to get burned and it finally just hit a point where it was too much to continue running.

Man, just clean it up, do a valve adjustment, and check your compression. You might be pleasantly surprised and have a bike that you can still ride.

carbon build up increases CR since, you're effectively taking away space for the air to be in the chamber.. bad build up will raise ya a good bit on the psi.. your rings are probably shot,or the valves all need lapped. that can't hurt anyway..
