what happens if you put a hose and just attach both reed valves or is that bad

:x I wouldn't do it.. just take the reeds out and block em off using nipples and a clamp or zip tie.

i read another thread saying that it was okay to do that, it would produce the same effect as blocking the plates or nipples

I don't know about REAL differences but there are THEORETICAL differences, since in one way you let the for chambers below the reed valves intercommunicate, while in the other way the ones communicating are 1-2 and 2-3. The optimum, I believe, would be no communication at all...
