I've got an 06 ZX6R with Two Bros dual exhaust, PCIII, Jumper Mod, PAIR Mod, BMC Air Filter, 190/55 rear tire and Driven Power Up -1/+2. I didn't notice this last season, but when I started riding this season I've noticed that the bike doesn't seem to be pulling as hard until it reaches around 8 or 9 grand, then seems like normal. I don't think it is the clutch because it's not that the motor is revving and the bike isn't going faster, it seems more like I'm trying to pull a refrigerator down the highway and it suddenly gets cut loose at around 8 or 9 grand. Both the front and rear wheels spin freely. The bike almost has 10K miles on it. The only thing I've done was change the oil this season and used Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w-40 as I always have.
I am going to start checking things like the air filter, plugs, vacuum leaks and throttle body sync, but since it isn't really running poorly like rough, popping or missing and I cleaned the air filter toward the end of last season, I'm kinda at a loss as to where I should start the troubleshooting process for this particular symptom.
If the clutch is slipping, wouldn't the motor rev higher but the bike wouldn't move forward as quickly? In my case it feels like a loss of power rather than the clutch since the bike and motor do seem to accelerate at the same speed, just not as quickly as before. It would also seem that the clutch would be more likely to slip in the higher rpm where the power is instead of actually (grabbing) taking off and seeming normal at that rpm.
I'm not doubting that could be the case, just want to understand . I've also got an 83 KZ550 with a bad clutch and it pulls fine until it gets to the higher rpm then lets go and the motor will rev but the bike does not move forward. This is my reasoning for thinking it may not be the clutch in my ZX6R.
I suggest you remove the PCIII and see if it still does it.
BTW make sure you have a good battery.
It's always good to make sure before starting any troubleshooting.
I did replace the battery at the end of last season, and it stays on a battery tender over the winter, so it probably isn't the issue. I'll give removing the PCIII a try though.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I would still check the battery.
Just to be sure.

I have a 05 zx6r and its doing the same thing
just started like a week ago, feels kind of like being in to high of a gear
but then it clears up as you get going
Thought it could have been the exhaust valve not closing at low speeds

You still have the stock exhaust I assume? I have the Two Bros so my exhaust valve is gone, but that is exactly what mine feels like.... it is in too high of gear. I've got an O2 sensor bung welded in, so if everything else checks out OK like the battery, PCIII, air filter, vacuum leaks and throttle body sync, I'll check the actual a/f ratio to see if it is a fueling problem. Kinda feels like a rich problem but I don't smell fuel and there was no fuel smell when I changed the oil, so if it is rich, it can't be too bad, but who knows at this point.
What mods have you done to your bike, maybe we can find a common denominator.
Yea its the stock exhaust, just changed the oil last week and did the jumper and air ram mods
Pulling the bike apart now to see what i can check off, going to try to clean out the fuel filter and see if I can see if the exhaust valve is stuck while I'm at it.

If the servo motor cycles back and forth when you turn on the key, that is a pretty good indication that the actual butterfly valve in the exhaust is moving. If the valve was stuck and the servo isn't able to complete its full cycle, it would throw the FI light.
