What to do with my 636

So i bought this bike at about 5500 miles iam the 3rd owner but the last guys ride it about 500 miles, the bike was 100% stock with oem flasher and all, it is mint condition in fact with absolutly no problem and almost no scratch .

Needless to say i love it so much as my first bike and would like to keep it BUT i can see the second gear is a little more sketchy than when i got the bike , i try to launch 1-2-3 at wot the less possible and just be smooth and open it up in the higher gear , but how long will it last, it don't jump out of gear its just feel different than other gear now .

So i just went into the 07-08 picture thread for the first time today , to learn to love them .... but honestly i would like to keep mine , its winter season approching, it would be the best time to fix it , does we have to pull the motor off the bike or just work on it with the bike on the side , bike will be stored in the house ,but i can always do the job in friends garage, i can always use carpet but i don't want to dump oil and gas too much in the house ... or wait till next summer and risk of losing some riding time , or simply wait and hope it can last another summer .

is it a $$$ fix?

I see somewhere that you can use an older piece that is not causing problem or a proshift kit or something ?

sorry i didn't search to much just want to get an idea of which direction to go for now , i speak french so if i would go into this myself i will defenatly need lots of help from you since i don't really understand all the expression you use ...

what would you do ?

I just bought an 05 with 10,000 miles. From what I've read online, the engine and transmission are internally connected. It's a pretty big job and costly just to have it happen again. Your best bet is to find a used engine/trans assembly with low miles, and swap the entire unit.

I agree with the above statement of looking for a good low mike engine. You can just go easy on it in 2nd and ride till it blows up, or skip over 2ND gear and go from 1-3

If the original bike only has 5,500 miles on it, then how are you going to know another motor any better? My bike will pass 76,000 miles tomorrow, owned from new and with no 2nd gear worries, but I tend to short-shift, and don't wheelie. If it was me, I'd look for someone that prepares race ZX6R engines, and ask what they'd recommend, eg undercutting, and get it done over the winter. Something like this: APE - Transmissions

Hey there, you said the bike is not jumping out of second gear? Shifting first to second always feels different than between higher gears in my experience, probably because the neutral gear is in between. With 5000 miles theres probably nothing wrong with your bike!
Dont throw your engine out if its not popping out of gear....
