So, I've finally started rebuilding my bike. We've been through 30,000 long miles together and I think it's about time I made her as MINT as she was on day one, once again. The theme I have decided to go with is White/Gold.
Not exactly original, but I think it's pretty unique. And it is what I want, so I am going to paint everything that is Passion red, white, and have the wheels powder coated Monaco Copper Gold. You will all see what I mean in a few months. But for now, here's the list of everything broken on my bike, and some plans, Maybe a few stories here and there about how certain things got damaged. Like my ball dent that every damn person I know somehow heard about from someone else. And by balls, yes, I literally dented my gas tank with my pelvis. So here goes. Day one of my build.
This bike has definitely been through a lot. Over all, I have honestly lost count of the number of times it's fallen over, or been knocked over or whatever. I learned on this bike, and I am passed the inexperienced days. I do light stunting from time to time, I have personally gone down on this bike twice. Once, stunting in a neighborhood for the first time ever, about a year and a half ago, and couldn't stop, locked up front and rear sliding and hit a garage, and came forward really hard and hit my pelvis on the gas tank very hard, making me fall over in pain, so along with me fell the bike. No real damage other than the smashed nose light, and a cracked rear brake pedal (Which now doesn't exist) broken front brake lever, and some light scratches on the fairing.
Second crash, was the first day it started raining in august of 2010 after a 2 week dry spell, and the rear end came out from underneath me around 35 mph. I hurt my shoulder pretty bad, no wheelies for about 6 months but I still rode on a regular basis, my shoulder just couldn't handle any weight.
I broke my left side foot peg almost completely off, except for about an inch to stand on, shattered my entire left side fairing, left mirror, and scratched my tank down to metal, broke my upper fairing, and scratched my rear fairing.
This one was taken about 3 days ago, and is the latest riding picture and last one of it in it's current state. I am 6'1" So I have to bend one knee when I do staggered stand ups, but I am extremely proud of my skills today, because of how far I've come.
Up next is the picture of the bike an hour after I bought it in April of 2010. I miss it, but it was all worth it.
And then today, I started the stripping process. I took off all the fairings and I'm starting prep.
So far, the list of problems is,
Broken upper fairing
2 Broken mirrors
Pegs on both sides broken off to little nubs
Rear Brake lever is NONEXISTENT
Front brake lever broken to a little nub
Ball dent in the gas tank
Scratch on tank down to metal
Scratch on rear fairing
Chain is clicking and stretched to its maximum
Radiator now has a hole in it
Clutch is on it's way out
Front brake pads are passed the wear point
Needs an oil change
Air filter is filthy
Headlight bulbs are dim as hell (the factory bulbs from day 1)
Has the infamous valve cover gasket leak......
Misc dings all over the bike
License plate light stopped working
Expired tabs as of June 2011 (still never been pulled over once on this bike)
So the way I look at it... Is there is a shit ton of stuff I need to buy.
