Default Wid's 07 Zx6r Build Thread

So, I've finally started rebuilding my bike. We've been through 30,000 long miles together and I think it's about time I made her as MINT as she was on day one, once again. The theme I have decided to go with is White/Gold.

Not exactly original, but I think it's pretty unique. And it is what I want, so I am going to paint everything that is Passion red, white, and have the wheels powder coated Monaco Copper Gold. You will all see what I mean in a few months. But for now, here's the list of everything broken on my bike, and some plans, Maybe a few stories here and there about how certain things got damaged. Like my ball dent that every damn person I know somehow heard about from someone else. And by balls, yes, I literally dented my gas tank with my pelvis. So here goes. Day one of my build.

This bike has definitely been through a lot. Over all, I have honestly lost count of the number of times it's fallen over, or been knocked over or whatever. I learned on this bike, and I am passed the inexperienced days. I do light stunting from time to time, I have personally gone down on this bike twice. Once, stunting in a neighborhood for the first time ever, about a year and a half ago, and couldn't stop, locked up front and rear sliding and hit a garage, and came forward really hard and hit my pelvis on the gas tank very hard, making me fall over in pain, so along with me fell the bike. No real damage other than the smashed nose light, and a cracked rear brake pedal (Which now doesn't exist) broken front brake lever, and some light scratches on the fairing.

Second crash, was the first day it started raining in august of 2010 after a 2 week dry spell, and the rear end came out from underneath me around 35 mph. I hurt my shoulder pretty bad, no wheelies for about 6 months but I still rode on a regular basis, my shoulder just couldn't handle any weight.

I broke my left side foot peg almost completely off, except for about an inch to stand on, shattered my entire left side fairing, left mirror, and scratched my tank down to metal, broke my upper fairing, and scratched my rear fairing.

This one was taken about 3 days ago, and is the latest riding picture and last one of it in it's current state. I am 6'1" So I have to bend one knee when I do staggered stand ups, but I am extremely proud of my skills today, because of how far I've come.

Up next is the picture of the bike an hour after I bought it in April of 2010. I miss it, but it was all worth it.

And then today, I started the stripping process. I took off all the fairings and I'm starting prep.

So far, the list of problems is,

Broken upper fairing
2 Broken mirrors
Pegs on both sides broken off to little nubs
Rear Brake lever is NONEXISTENT
Front brake lever broken to a little nub
Ball dent in the gas tank
Scratch on tank down to metal
Scratch on rear fairing
Chain is clicking and stretched to its maximum
Radiator now has a hole in it
Clutch is on it's way out
Front brake pads are passed the wear point
Needs an oil change
Air filter is filthy
Headlight bulbs are dim as hell (the factory bulbs from day 1)
Has the infamous valve cover gasket leak......
Misc dings all over the bike
License plate light stopped working
Expired tabs as of June 2011 (still never been pulled over once on this bike)

So the way I look at it... Is there is a shit ton of stuff I need to buy.

List of parts and prices. (No Specific Order)

-Radiator $200 used
-Rearsets $200-$400
-Paint job materials $250
-Wheel Powder Coating $50 per wheel
-Brake pads $25
-Chain OEM $175
-Levers $75
-Bar ends $25
-Frame sliders $75
-Oil Change $45
-HID's $free from friend
-Mirrors $50
-Grips $40
-License Plate light $5
-Tabs for 1 year $47.43
-OEM Clutch Kit $100

So here goes nothin. Hope everyone enjoys this as much as I will.

Default Day 1

So today was all about finding out about the leak in the radiator, and deciding not to ride for a while. I have been a daily rider for over a year and a half now rain or shine, so I'm pretty bummed out about this.

I started by taking some pictures of the damage.

The Ball dent...

Took some parts off,

And then this is how she sits in the garage now until I start sanding that tank......

All the parts off the bike

And the new upper fairing all primed up and purdy.

More updates hopefully soon. Sorry I write a lot, but I am not known on this forum yet, so I felt like a little introducing was in order

Can't wait to see how this turns out. I just cracked 12k on my bike [8000+ miles this season]. It's my first bike and I ride it as much as I can. I just love it. 30,000 miles is impressive! Glad to know they'll last that long! haha

Thumbs up

I would reco a stunt cage somewhere in there, bc that would save you a lot of money in the long run as for less damage would occur with a cage attached.

Good stuff though! Good luck with the re-build.

Yes it does, I love working on my bike. I'll be doing all the paint and body work myself. Thanks, and trust me, I'm just as excited haha. And I like your bike BTW. It's very clean, and well done.

My bike runs better today than it did when I first got it. I love it to death, and when and if it ever fails in the engine area, then I'll be replacing the engine and restarting. Kawi for life. And 8,000 miles is very acceptable for a season. Keep up the riding and I hope to see you still posting about riding at 30,000 miles.

Although I really do agree with the concept of a stunt cage, Stunting is pretty much a distraction from not being able to corner during the bad weather here in WA. I live in Olympia, so I know you understand out of anyone. But aside from that, my main focus with my bike for the entire time I've had it, has been cornering. I am going to upgrade the Sliders, and call it a day, body work is not a big deal to me, and money is no issue, so cosmetics, I will just fix, no cage in the world will prevent death. Definitely care more about personal safety over my bike's. But I really do appreciate the advice man. Just don't stunt enough to see the worth in a cage over my cornering comfort.

Cool

Money is not an issue? Then hook me up with a couple dollars! I'm just playn, but I do agree on the cage being an obstacle when in heavy lean.
Cant wait to see your project completed.

Olympia huh? I have a lot of family over in the Capital area too.

I used to live off of Marvin Rd. In the Hawks Ridge neighborhood.

Oh nice, yeah I've lived here my whole life. The only thing I really hate about this place, is the damn rain. And the gravel on all the roads until april... Haha.
