I tried to follow the service manual's order of removal but they tend to jump around. For those of you that have the service manual I've included the page number after each heading.

A couple final comments and a question.

First of all. DO NOT FORCE ANYTHING!! The last thing you want is to crack a fairing. Be careful. You will have to bend the side fairings out a bit to get them off but do it carefully.

Make sure your fairings are in a safe place. Don't want them getting scratched up in the garage.

And can someone tell me why the hell they made these fairings so damn hard to get off !??

UPDATE
For your convenience I have created a PDF of the tutorial for you to download. It can be downloaded here:

Not at all. I actually put together a .pdf as well but the attachment size limit was too small for me to post it. I'll have to look into rapidshare or something.

Lol it took me 3 hours to reassemble my fairings when i put my bike back together. I wish I had this write-up a few months back.

Great work and nice pictures.

STICKY!!!!

Beautifully done.
Nice work!

STICKY!!

Also, can you PM me a copy of that pdf as well?!? I'd love to have it for this winter when I have to put the stock plastics back on.

Thanks man!

Where was this 2 months ago!! LOL I had a difficult time getting frame sliders on. Damn I didn't think you had to remove the lights as well to get the front cowl off. Instead we used L-shaped screw drivers at the front, so we could get the side fairings off, what a PITA.

Yeah, there is a rivet there. You need to remove that one to remove the fairing assembly. The lower one is for the headlight.

This really needs a sticky. Gotta find a Mod. to do it. This was a huge help as I tore mine apart this last weekend and cleaned the piss out of it.

I feel as if I should get a new fairing set that has less pieces to remove... it's not difficult to remove the stock pieces but if you tear your bike down monthly to clean it up real good like I do, you can see how frustrating it will become. :(

I know what you mean. I fought forever to get those damn fairings off. Glad I had this tutorial to help.
