Hey guys, I just rebuilt my bike, and put a new gas tank on. However, it seems very unstable and wobbles side to side. I have tightened three bolts: the one directly underneath the driver seat, and the two by the steering damper. Are there any other bolts I am unaware of? What am I missing?

My 07 had two pieces of rubber on the bottom of the tank that sat on the frame. Maybe one or both are missing. Just a guess.

I tried looking and I did not see those rubber pieces. The tank rests mostly on the air box... Could you try to point them out on the schematic? Also, it seems weird because I do not see anything on my old tank either.

Ekimgb is correct. Those are rubber bumpers near the front that stop it from rocking. They are held on with a SMALL amount of crappy adhesive and fall off easily. Find 'em and glue them back on and your tank will be solid again.

Gotcha... I am not sure if the 09 has those too though. It doesn't look like it from the schematics. I will try looking though. I am beginning to think I did not re-install the air box correctly and it is sitting too high up, thus propping the tank up, allowing it to wobble...

Make sure the bolts that hold the bracket to the bottom of the tank are tight as well.

I had the same problem on mine the first time I took it apart... very annoying.

It turned out to be a missing rubber mount that goes on that side panel that sit wedged between the tank and the frame.

This part:


The rubber mount is at the end of the part (skinny end - left side of the picture)

I find that I need to make sure the rubber mount is properly wedged in there (both sides) before tightening the bolt that holds the side panel or the tank will still wobble these days...
