on the fence on these tires

OK, I've been researching tires all day, and need some input now that I've narrowed the field down. I'm just putting tires on the back right now, and have decided to upsize to 26". The fronts are still in really good shape, only 550 miles on the bike but the rears are kinda chewed up from, err, spinning....

Sooo, right now I'm looking at 26x10x12 Interco Swamp Lites, or GBC Grim Reapers in the same size. I ride pretty tame trails with lots of gravel, hardpack, and an occasional mud puddle or snow patch thrown in. I love love love the look of the swamp lites and they have 1+ inches of tread lug. They are a bias tire in 6 ply.

Now the Reapers are 8 ply radials, with 7/8" tread depth, and are pretty close in weight to the swamp lites, only like 26 pounds per tire. There is like a $10 difference between a pair of each.

I've read that the reapers last a long time, but honestly I only drive 300-500 miles per year. What, in your opinion would I be better off with? Ill replace the front tires if I keep it through the summer (I'm eyeing a 750i with power steering sometime down the road if the fates smile upon me :-)

Well after much debate, I pulled the trigger on the tried and true Grim Reapers. Feeling happy about my decision, until I read that having a 26" rear tire and a 25 front (or less considering they are OEM up front) will mess with the 4x4 since the different size tires would be spinning at different speeds. Full on panic mode set in, wasn't prepared to drop more cash on 2 more tires and looking to have radials on all four corners.

Enter the Artrax CTX radial. Its a bighorn clone, and was only $75 each for 26x9x12 for the fronts. So for $350 shipped I got radial tires at all corners in 26". Hoping to sell my still useable brute force OEM tires for $100, bringing the cost down to 250, which is very palatable to me. Hopefully I don't lose too much power by the bigger heavier tires. I'll update with pictures when they arrive and get mounted.

Tell more about the Grim Reapers, sounds a better choice. A close friend here is choosing between that and this Duro Power Grip for his sportsman 500.

Duro power grips are real hit and miss with quality control. Mixed bag of reviews in regards to vibration at speed and out of balance issues. I would have gone reapers all around but didn't want a 10" tire on the front and that's the narrowest they make them. Check out YouTube for a code review of the ctx tires, they look amazing and now sorta have me wishing I had ordered them in 26x12x12 for the rear instead of the 26x10x12 reapers. I'll have them mounted by Saturday and will post pictures.

Got the tires installed, the ctx tires are awesome! They make the Grim reapers look like cheap stock tires, wishing I had saved some coin and just got ctx tires on the rear as well. Ride on pavement is super smooth, and turning is like having power steering. Only a tiny bit of power loss noticeable, but I don't pull wheelies so it's no biggie to me. Hoping to hit some dirt this coming weekend and see how they really perform off road.
