KZ750 LTD Clatter
Hey guys,
I have an '81 KZ750 LTD that I have been working on for a while. When I got it, it ran pretty well witht he exception of the carbs needing to be cleaned. I put it off and put it off until it would no longer start. So last week I had a guy I know clean and rebuild the carbs. It starts and runs great, but now there is a clatter in the motor that was not present before. The guy that did my carb work is a motorcycle tech at a local dealer and a decent enough guy that I trust his opinion. He said that
it sounded like something came loose in the clutch basket. I got the clutch cover off and started poking around, but I can find absolutely nothing wrong with it. The sound is hollow like something is bouncing around the inside of the aluminum cover. Sounds wierd, but the best I can explain it is like a hollow "bock". (go ahead and make fun.) I rode it for about a mile just to see how the carbs were doing and the sound was rather loud on take-off and lower rpm, but seemed to diminish a bit at higher rpm. (Sorry no tach to give a reference here).
I only came across 1 post that seemed relevant to this topic in my forum search and it never had a conclusion. Could this be the cam chain tensioner I have been reading about elsewhere? Any thoughts you all have would me much appreciated.
