KZ1100 oil disappearing........

Hey, everyone; Have an '81 KZ1100 with 57,0000 kms. on it. Picked it up in Feb., tidied it, changed all the fluids and oil filter. Using Kawasaki 10/40 oil. It's running good and I've put 900 kms. on it. I've owned metric transverse fours before and never had an issue with excess oil consumption so hadn't bothered checking the oil level for these short rides. Discovered the other day that it was over two litres low, big surprise. It's not leaking and my riding buddies following report no smoking or other issues. It's a mystery to me, anyone have any thoughts, ideas or input on this situation ?

If compression is good, the valve seals might be cracked, so oil flows down from in the head into one or more cylinders.

Look at which spark plugs are more black to try to narrow down which cylinder might be burning more oil.

You could also put a long sheet of paper towels under the bike while it is idling, to see if oil drips onto the paper towels.

An older engine does have a good chance of getting a leak at the valve cover gasket or gaskets- check to see if the valve cover bolts are tight first, then try a new gasket.

I had a big oil leak years ago- the mechanic forgot to tighten the valve covers after they checked the valve clearances.
