Well I did it anyways, and it feels a helluva lot better....we'll have to wait and see what an actual ride is like.[8D]

Well, this maybe a stupid question. I see that most of you that have done this have a 03+, will this work for an 02 seat? Thanks.

What about a 99 seat? Damn that thing is uncomfortable after an hour or so of riding.

I just did this mod and ill tell you right now its a bitch outing the staples back on...The plastic is thicker then hell.Other than that now the bike is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more comfy.I went for a more flatter seat so my crotch doesnt ride the tank and now I can readjust my ass without constantly having my ass slowly slide back forward into the tank [xx(].....O yea you cant feel the imperfections of the seat from the cutting when you sit on it but when you rub the seat you will feel the ghetto cutting [|)]

Damn, I should have taken pics yesterday when I did mine. Since it's freaking SNOWING in Ohio, I decided to shave my seat down. Here's what I did on my 99.

1. I pulled most of the staples out with a small flathead screwdriver. I left the cover stapled across the back of the seat so it would be easier to reinstall.

2. Using a turkey cutter (mentioned in post #2) I cut the seat down, but I started a little farther back. I took my time and cut it where it looked halfway decent. It will look bumpy at this time, but don't worry about it.

3. Took a die grinder and a bristle bit and carefully ground down any major imperfections.

4. Took 40 grit sandpaper and sanded the whole seat until it looked like new.

5. I took a staple gun and started at the front of the seat and put in 3 staples about a 1/2" away from each other. Then I pulled the sides fairly tight (there's a little bit (3/8") of a gap between the foam and the cover right in the middle. I think if I stretched it anymore, it would have ripped. I made sure there were no wrinkles and had my wife help staple a couple times while I held the cover in place.

All in all, I think I didn't shave enough off the back of the seat. I feel like I'm leaning over too far, but I can't actually ride it yet. After I get a ride or two in, I'll decide if I need to shave the back down a bit.

is the main objective of seat shaving to trim down the area directly under your ass and create a small mound of foam at the front of the seat? if it is, do your nuts slam into the mound of foam instead of the tank after the seat is shaved?

I love it. My ass doesn't fall asleep anymore and it's much more comfortable. It took me about an hour.
