I just did this on my '02 seat and wow, what a difference! Any of you guys that are over 6' have to do this. I'm 6'3" and this made a world of difference. Before I had trouble with putting alot of weight on the bars because I'm so tall. Now, because the seat is lower, I sit down in the bike more so I'm not putting as much pressure on the bars. The 98-02 seat is a little different than the one posted, I ended up taking a bit of foam out all the way to the back of the seat. This helps me so I can sit all the way back with my butt resting against the rear seat. It also takes the pressure off my nuts, which is just wonderful.
Just make sure you leave the staples on the back of the seat in place, it makes it alot easier to get the cover back on. Overall I think this is a must do mod for everyone that isn't happy with the stock seat!

After riding it for a couple of weeks, I need to shave a little more off the back. It leans me into the tank and starts to crush my twig & berries.

I'm in the process of installing a gel pad in place of most of the foam... should be a huge improvment although its gona cost me 70-90 bucks with the new color matching vinyl and gel pad. should kick ass though for long days of cruising.

I had always thought that shaving your seat was for looks only and actually would make for a worse ride. I may have to try this on my '00 if it makes as big a difference as you guys say it does. Anyone have pics of a shaved seat on a '00-'02 before and after to see how much to take off?

I did a seat mod to my old vstar,
cut it down a little more e.g. 1/2 in more and add carpet padding to the foam , glue it with a good quick drying adheasive and put the cover back on. I found the carpet padding to be more comfy than just the foam.
let me say you all have an awesome forum going here.
I also found www.zx6e.com to be a great place.
I bought a 94 zx6e yesterday
