As part of Kawasaki's "Times Square Takeover," Team Green officially unveiled two all-new 2013 models sure to shake up the status quo in their respective categories. Making its debut first in Europe and later Canada, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 is making its way to the U.S. market as we suspected. And as we also predicted based on EPA documents, the Ninja ZX-6R sees a return to the 636cc displacement first seen in the States a decade ago. Details on that machine can be seen here.

After finally experiencing competition in the beginner bike market from Honda's CBR250R, the Ninja 300 looks to regain its stranglehold in the class. The new 300 takes the 250cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-Twin mill of old Ninjette and pumps it to 296cc by virtue of a longer stroke (49.0 mm vs. 41.2 mm). Bore dimension remains the same at 62.0 mm.

Already a feature in European Ninja 250s, digital fuel injection is now part of the package for American riders. This should cure the EPA-mandated lean jetting used in the old 250's carburetors, upping performance and mileage while helping it meet ever-increasing emissions requirements and making cold start-ups a breeze. Dual 32mm throttle bodies feed air and fuel to each cylinder. Engine internals get a makeover as well, with larger intake ports and intake valves increasing in size 1mm to 23.6mm.

You can check out everything about these new bikes and Kawi website. I did so last night. I love absolutely everything about the Ninja 300 except that I do not own one... yet...

I think this will be an amazing year for Kawi, and I'm excited for the future of bikes in general. So many bikes on the road these days, and I feel like bikes will continue to rise in popularity.

A 300cc bike on the market is a genius move, as would be releasing a 150cc entry level / "urban" bike. I know there is a market for these. Lots of people want the motorcycle look and feel at a small displacement, rather than having to get a scooter to get into riding at the sub-200cc range. Manufacturers already offer 125 / 150cc single cylinder sport bikes overseas. Bring them to the US!

Problem with the current 250 (and I guarantee it'll carry over to the 300) is that these bikes are no longer priced at the entry level. The older Ninja 250 was $3k in my area. Now you are looking at $4k or more because of high demand and resultant dealer markup. I'll bet you dollars to pesos this thing is going to cost even more; my suspicions are fueled (pun intended hurf durf) by the higher displacement, and added cost of fuel injection.

There just aren't any entry level bikes on the market anymore... anywhere... at all...

[Edit] Also, a 380 pound curb weight is embarrassing. My big fat old 600 was lighter. Come on!

I LOVE it so far! The 250 was already awesome since 2008 changes! This is pretty good info also:



Also they did an EPIC show in Times Square. I'll never forget it!

First fill up 73mpg, 2nd was 54.7mpg but that was mostly 2-up with lots of highway at 80mph
