Search FAQ

This FAQ is written for KawiForums users that are unfamiliar with the search function and / or search techniques.

How do I search – On every page at, there is a bar near the top of the page that allows the user to execute multiple functions. Near the right side of the page is a button marked “search”.

A quick click of this button will pop up a quick search box, as shown below.

Enter the term you are looking to find in the text box. You may hit the enter key, or click “Go” to execute the quick search.

The results page will follow shortly. You will notice that the quick search function returns results from all areas of For this example, if you are searching for Fender Eliminators for your 2008 Ninja 250, you will see results from many different areas of the forum. As seen below, there are results from areas that may not interest you.

There is an easy alternative to this problem. If you are surfing the forum that you are interested in (In this example, the Ninja 250 forum), there are two handy buttons on the right hand side of the page above the new threads. One of them is labeled “Search this forum”.

If you click this button, a text box similar to the one from the quick search appears. When you enter your term or phrase into this text box and hit Enter or the button labeled “Go”, the search will execute only in the forum you are surfing. You will notice that the results returned are all from the Ninja 250 forum.

What if I want to search multiple forum sections, but not all of them? – There is an easy solution to that problem. If you click on the search button in the top bar, and instead entering a term and executing a quick search, you click on the button labeled “Advanced Search”, you will be presented with a multitude of search options.

This page is very useful for complex searches. You may choose to search by keyword or by user name, and there are several constraint options you can select as well. The options on the left side under the green “Search Options” bar can be either set or left alone at their default values. The right side of that section allows you to select multiple forum areas to search. You can hold down the control key while clicking multiple areas and the search will execute through those specific forum areas.

What are some other search tips? – You can search through a page using your web browser by hitting control + F (In Internet Explorer) or control + G (Firefox) to use the find function. This allows you to quickly search the active page for specific text strings.

How can I ensure the best search results?

a. When searching for a phrase, use the quotation feature to search for the exact phrase.
b. Search in the specific applicable forums.
c. Spelling is important. Capitalization is not.

Why search, this is a forum about discussion isn't it? Yes, this is a discussion forum, but forums live on their search engine and loyal members. Posting the same question over and over dilutes the search engine and makes happy to help members fade away. If you have searched, know your answer, but want to make 1000% sure, there is nothing wrong with posing an obvious question. It would be courteous and gain more results if you were to state your search efforts and apprehension in your post though.

This FAQ was made in an effort to help the new members from getting made fun of or insulted by experienced users who have seen the same question posted many times before. The writer assumes no responsibility for anything, ever. Credit to Unabomber from NASIOC for some of the verbage.

Unfortunately this does not work at least not for me.

If I search for "Tire Repair" with the quotes included, my search returns posts with only the word "Tire" and posts with only the word "Repair"

I wish I could search only for "Tire Repair"
