Default Wanting a dual sport

So I'm wanting a dual sport bike and wanted to know how much I should expect to spend and on what model.

It will be used as a learner bike for my girl and myself but would like the ability to go ride it to off-roading spots... I don't plan on crazy off roading just through the dirt and mud and maybe some water... the water just looked cool.

I would like to spend under 2k... what would you recommend?

Under 2 k and street legal? Probably a DRZ/KLX 400. GEt the DRZ E (if you can in your state) if you want a more dirt ready than tarmac bike.

Just bought a KTM myself...

Pretty gutless from what I have read...any particular reason? you want a street legal bike for under $2k...you cant be that picky lol. And a DRZ 400 and KLX share the same design..exactly.

No reason outside that I wanted to stay with Kawi but if the DRZ 400 will work then i'm all ears.

And yes I know I can't be picky

By your definition I can recommend, if you can find one, Kawasaki's Super Sherpa. Most people don't even know of this bike and those that do hang on to theirs for years. Instead of writing all about it, just go to this thread - Super Sherpa thread - ADVrider - and read what owners say about and do with them. Take a look on page 3, by HighCountry. Says it all!

how tall is she? If she's short, an XT225. Most all dualsports are tall machines and can be intimidating to a novice rider. You could get lowering links but that would mean spending extra $$$ and effort.

the 400's are a lot of bike. The Super Sherpa, as Last pointed out, is another nice bike for what you may be looking for.

If I can find them is right... seem hard to come by
