What's up guys. Greetings from North Carolina. I'm somewhat of a newb here, but not in general. Let me explain...
I've had a bike ever since I was 16, MX since about 8(I'm 21 now). Had a 2003 r1, 2003 R6, currently have a 2009 R1, and I just got my hands on a 2007 zx6r. I used to race mx and I rode a Kawi then, so I figured it was only right that my first track bike be a Kawi. So here I am, going to build this zx6r into my first track bike.
Oh, here is my build thread for my 09 R1. You all might like it...
Oh yes. I'm pretty well known on the R1 forum and I posted up my whole story behind getting the bike, all the boys were jealous of the deal I got. Let me post it up here real quick...
Well guys, I got her today. But I sure had to work for it...
I get there after a 2 hour drive and see it. Very satisfied. Had the tank with just scratches, from what I could see, all ends of the wiring harness intact, had the gauge cluster, etc. Only damage I could really see was the fairings, broken rearset, broken clutch perch and front MC, missing passenger peg, and broken headlights. So I asked "how tight are you on the $1200(what they had it posted for)" The ladys instant response "oh we're asking $1300 for it". So then the son comes out about this time, I didn't even know he was home nor had I ever talked to him. I ask a few questions about the bike then ask him how tight HE is on the $1300. I said would you take $1000? He said $1200, we settled on $1150 for a 2007 zx6r with less than 6,000 miles. I'm happy to say the least.
So after EVERYTHING is loaded, title in hand(I told her I would take care of it since it was so late at night, no DMV or notary open), bill of sale also, the mom goes "I just don't know if we can let it go that cheap." My face goes blank. I said, "With all do respect ma'am, we have already made the deal and filled out the paperwork". She said, "I just don't think I can do it. Please take it off the trailer or we'll come up with another price." I looked at the son with a "You GOT to be kidding me look". Well we went round and round for about 20 minutes, then she had some tricker treaters show up. So when she walks away, the son goes "man I'm sorry for all this" hands me $200 back along with the title and says "have a safe trip home" then shakes my hand. Wow, did NOT expect that. So I end up getting everything for $950. What a night...
Here are some quick pics with the plastic thrown on it...
Theres the link to my thread on the R1 Forum that explains it a little more. It was in the moms name, but the son paid for it.
And I'm assuming the son felt bad for his mom making such a huge deal out of it and he handed me $200 back. I told him if he ever needed anything dealing with bikes, let me know. He was a real straight up guy. Cool that there are still people like that around.
Yea I'm psyched about it. I'm probably going to finish my R1 build first, then hop on this beast. Figured I would become acquainted with the forum first before I dive in.
Thanks guys. Yea I usually end up being the youngest person involved in tech talk on the R1 Forum. I get plenty of crap about it. Haha. But I don't mind. Bikes are my passion, and it's what I love to do. (not to get all heartfelt and whatnot :biggrin
nice score. how did you find out about the bike being available? was it on craigslist? i've been perusing the internet for a deal like that for a while now.
Yea, I stayeddd looking on Craigslist. My 09, i bought wrecked for $500. Haha. That was from a guy I knew with a wrecker service. There are sooo many wrecked bikes out there, it's just a matter of exploring your sources.
I would recommend contacting wrecker services, salvage yards, etc. and just get in good with them so that when they get a wrecked bike in, they call you asap to see if you want it.
:Laughing rolling: :Laughing rolling: :Laughing rolling: Yeaaaaa, my R1 Forum avatar might not be appropriate up here.
Thanks for the warm welcoming. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me soon so I can throw all my 1's at you and get some goodies in return. :Laughing Sign:
Ya know, I threw out about 34 pictures int two posts in the VIP on the R1 forum, and it took foreverrr for anyone else to contribute. I felt like I was doing all the work.
