Just checking in to say hi and gather more information on my motorcycle.

I'm currently riding a 2009 Ninja 650 after one season on a Ninja 250.

I'm on here because I'm looking into upgrading the 650 some. Currently I have sport bars and upgraded grips. I'm looking to add an exhaust, HID headlights, rim stripes, frame sliders, and a fender eliminator.

I'm planning on keeping this bike for quite a while, since moving up to a Z1000 also moves my insurance up a ton.

Welcome! Nice bike. I wouldn't put HID's unless you plan on retrofitting projectors in there, so much glare!

Why aren't HIDs a good idea?

I'm planning on using this kit. 2009 - 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 650 650R 1000 ER-6f Z1000SX HID BiXenon Projector kit with angel eyes halo

The kit you posted will be alright, since it uses projectors to control the HID bulb output. I was referring to just putting a HID kit in the stock headlights, with just the stock reflector bulbs (like just changing the regular bulbs for HID bulbs and ballasts) since doing that produces tons of glare for oncoming traffic.

To give you a better idea of what I meant. I have a 2011 zx6r, it comes stock with projector headlights. The newer zx6r, 636 and zx10 however do not. Put HIDS into one of those head light assembles its going to glare, you aren't going to get a brighter sight picture and its going to look like shit.
I throw the same set into my projector headlights, its going to be one solid beam, look smooth and give a brighter sight picture all depending on what (K) I decide to go with.

That clears things up. I was wondering why anyone would say that HIDs were a bad idea. Of course throwing a bulb in a housing it wasn't designed for is a bad idea.
