Hi everyone I'm new to the site and just starting to learn to drive a motorcycle and I got this ex250 and I've got it to run now with choke on and eventually idles without it. But as soon as I put it into 1st gear it dies and it dies anytime I try to give in throttle also. And Yes my kickstand is up during the whole process HELP ME!
Will it rev in neutral? (looking for carb/engine problems)
Will the bike roll around with engine off? (looking for stuck brakes)
If it dies the moment you let out the clutch, it's probably either a stuck kickstand safety switch, or the the clutch safety switch.
If none of that pans out, offer a few beers or soft drinks to an experience rider to come over and give it a whirl. He or she might be able to give you a better diagnosis on-site then we can through the interwebs.
Finally, when you resolve this, please come back and tell us what it was. When some future newer rider with a Ninja 250 has the same problem, it'd be nice for them to receive the benefit of your wisdom.
i had same problem with klr safety switch on stand was seized i cut wires and joined together with insulating tape or u can remove completely if wd 40 doesnt free pins up
Has gas in the tank, and when I let out the clutch it does jolt forwards.and no it won't rev in neutral either, tried to give it gas and it dies.. Ugh.. Was thinking it's the carb buts the pain the ass to get to and would take a full day to get out and clean
Well, some times you gotta do what you gotta do. Or you can pay someone. In either case, it sounds like the carbs are gummed up, with the most likely culprit being the idle jet (since it has the smallest opening). A lot of local shops will clean and rebuild carbs for a fixed rate; if you can get them off the bike and take them over, they might give a couple bucks off.
Before you do that, though, take a flashlight and look at the inside of the gas tank. If it's full of rust, the carbs will keep getting plugged up as rust sheds off the tank walls. At that point, you can either seal the tank OR (and I strongly suggest this) find a replacement tank with no rust inside it. It is possible to remove and seal a rusty tank, but it seems like more often then not the tank lining will start to shed and (surprise!) start plugging up the fuel system.
Someone once said, "Adventure is discomfort recounted at leisure.". It's the PIA stories that are most fun to tell at parties, even though they suck at the time. Hang in there.
Well I bypassed the kickstand switch and it still does it. Try to put it into gear and it acts like it wants to go sometimes but lurches forward and dies. Help!
