650 is a great highway bike, I started on one in 2015. It all depends really what your budget is. You can find a nearly new 650 for less than half the cost of a new 1000. Compare insurance rates too (insuring a 1000 in ON is a bit of a pain).
The new 650 has shed around 40 lbs and got smarter for this year. If I didn't have such a fetish for an inline 4 I would probably hang onto mine for another year or two.
Jump up to a 1000 if that's what you want. If you don't like a bike, you can always get another
I don't think I would recommend jumping to a 1000 quite so soon. A 650 would probably be a good choice at this point if you don't want to stay on the 250 for a while longer.
A 650 is a fairly capable bike that you probably won't get bored of any time soon. They are inexpensive to purchase ( probably more so now that they changed the model) and the insurance is reasonable. Ya my wife had a 250 and I rode it a few times, while it is super fun in the tight twisties to throw around it sucks at highway speeds. I found my hands would go numb from the vibrations. Where abouts are you located?
I learned on a 250 for a day then borrowed my buddies CBR 600 for about a week haha, after that, i bought an 08 650. The 650 is what i recommend for people to start out on 650 because it's not OP and you're not going to get bored after a month. I've been riding for about 3 years now and I just bought a 2013 650. I eventually want to by a 636, but, my 650 lasted about 3 years before I wanted more power haha. But that's because i want to start tracking my bike and want something faster than a 650 for that. But i still believe a 650 would make an adequate track bike. After all, It's not the bike, it's the rider. And that holds true when getting a bigger bike. Control the bike and yourself, not the other way around. jumping to a 1000 i wouldn't recommend. That's a lot of power. I've ridden a few. i was going to buy a fz1 instead of my 650, but that was 10k as apposed to the 4.3k I spent on my 13 650.
Never to soon brother he 650 is a awesome bike man. I'm in love with the look. I got a 2003 ninja 500 only had 6000 miles on it and it's been plenty of bike for me especially being my first bike but when I saw the new ninja 650's I fell in love. As soon as I get enough money I will definitely be purchasing. I also love how comfortable the bike is.
