Update 26NOV2012
Dealer now offered $7500 shipped

Hello kawiforums,

I recently had the urge to buy a green 2008 zx6r and i'd like to hear other individuals opinions before going through with it. The mileage is whats sticking out to me the most and i understand i would still have to comply with the break in process.

How bad of shape could this bike possibly be in? It was "taken care of" by a dealership. just curious.

Bike info:
-Model:Green 2008 ZX6R
-Mileage:19
-Dealer Asking Price:$7,499
-Price shipped to my door:$7,500
which does not include tax, title, or
registration in my home state
(originally dealer wanted $7900)
-Does not come with a warranty
-Dealership is Monroe Motorsports in MI
ACTUAL LINK
2008 Kawasaki Ninja Zx-6r, Monroe MI - 103623112 - Cycletrader.com
PICS:

got new pics of the bike

My main questions are:
-Is $7,500 a fair price shipped? even though tax, title and registration aren't included?
-Is the price fair considering the mileage of the bike?
-Buying a used bike with no warranty? Good or bad?
I'm not really sure about these things myself and I would like to hear other opinions. Thanks to anyone who responds or shares their thoughts, no matter how positive or negative.

here's my thoughts:

Kelley Blue Book

the bottom line is the bike is worth a hair over $6k. PERIOD. additional mods don't mean shit. fancy parts don't mean shit. garaged kept and low miles DON'T MEAN SHIT. it's worth about $6k. and this is AFTER taxes. so i'd start negotiating there. i'd simply tell the dealer that i'm paying no more than $6k OTD and if not i'll go somewhere else. or you can tell them you have a different dealer that's got the same bike for less and pit them against each other. i've done that before with fabulous results.

to give you an idea, i bought my 08 zx-6r in 2008 and paid $8400 out the door. with zero miles. it's kinda funny that 4 years later, it's only depreciated by $900.

if you're willing to travel a little, you can try some shops up by me. K&M cycles in shelby twp or motor city power sports in bloomfield hills. i've bought bikes from both of those places and if you're firm on your conditions, they will play ball...

I still wouldnt pay anything more than 6k for a 4 year old bike. If the guy wants to sell it he will, if hes a motorcycle hoarder good luck getting him to part with it at all, much less coming down on the price.

How much seat time do you have on a motorcycle? You sound like kind of a noob. If you are buying this as your first bike you WILL drop it. I would buy used with some miles on it. There is a reason they have had this bike for so long and nobody has bought it yet.

I would not get hung up on mileage. Some miles like at least 2-3k for every year is better than 0 miles. You will over-pay for this shiny bike, then hate yourself when there are problems with it, or when you drop it for first time.

I'm done giving advice on this thread. OP asked for advice, he has received good advice in the tons from members, mostly advising him to stay away from it. But you've gone back to take more pictures, you seem to really want the bike despite being advised against it.

At this point my thoughts are do what you want. If you get the bike and it later realise you over paid for it, you were warned and only have your self to blame. If you do go for it, I hope you have years of enjoyable riding out of it.

thanks for the advice. i have no idea why, but i just still want the bike. idk wtf is wrong with me. i've read every post and i still want it. i have no clue...

:plusone:Being a noob is no insult - we all were once. Good advice here. If it was me, that's what I would do......
yes i am a noob. ive probably got only a couple hundred hours of riding experience over a year and a half. and im definitely a mechanical noob too. i usually never work on my bike myself and always have my friends helping me out. hence why i made this post asking everyone about mechanical condition and stuff.

but thanks to everyone for their advice in this thread. i wont update anymore and +rep to everyone who was helpful:cheers:

you obviously want the bike. otherwise you would of just said fuck it after you got our opinions.

youre still speaking to the dealer so its clear you have yourself set on it.

ok this is progress... so what made you come to your senses?

btw am not gloating, just glad you made a wise decision in the end.

You looking at anything else?

-still sitting at the dealer.

-everyone's points were valid in this thread. too much risk, pretty much all risk with the only reward being a short term new bike high.

-still riding my 06 636, until i can find something else and turn my 06 into a more track oriented bike(i.e. one im not afraid to take a spill on).

im not going to lie though im still interested in obtaining an 08 green zx6r.

If youre gonna spend x of thousands on a second hand ZX6R you might as well get a new 636... go on you know you want to :D

so ive e-mailed every dealership/private party(what i found on cycletrader) with a green 08 zx6r that has less than 5k miles. None of them were budging for anything close to kbb. WTF do i gotta do man!

p.s. the shitty dealership mentioned in this thread still wants 7. AMAZING!, huh?

sorry for this useless post. i was pissed.

i wouldn't bust her hymen, if you going to grab a bike with under 1000 miles, get one with a warranty

i found both used bikes i purchased from 3rd parties with under 1000miles, paid between 4-5.5k for both bikes which costs between 6.2-8k new

what in particular do you like about the 07-08 version of this bike?

side note, if its a must have, this thread is useless, get it, sport bikes don't stay pretty for too long(not saying that one is pretty), and they don't even make this style new anymore, so 19miles is about as new as it will get. I'm just curious about the factory warranty....do they have a time limit? Just noticed it is a DEMO, check with your insurance company to see if they will insure it

why not a '13 6dirty6?

If I'm reading this correctly this is the worst advise of the thread. Your basically saying if you want it buy it. Don't worry about it being over priced or the other stuff surrounding it. He might be able to get a 1 year warranty maybe. This thread wasn't useless your post was.

sent from an odd place between my ears.

You're better off keeping the 636, throw the 07-08 brake calipers on there, get your suspension set up professionally or buy an aftermarket shock and save yourself some money without having to downgrade to the 07-08.

its true though, when it comes down to something you want that bad, people will overpay for the get it now factor

Agreed and as I have lost my faith in humanity over the last few years, I tend to spend more time and money on 'stuff' and less on socialising. In short I've become a retail whore :D

But that doesn't mean its the smart choice.

The absolute most I'd pay for that bike is $5800. You can get low mileage 09-12's for around 5900-6200 all day long. Shipping is max $500 and they don't have to collect tax since your out of state. Way too high.
