Building on the success of its Z1000 semi-naked sportster, and series of mid-size street-going Ninjas, Kawasaki has announced a 2011 big-bore amalgamation called the Ninja 1000.

The fully-faired machine is essentially a Z1000 with Ninja bodywork. It will share the Z's counterbalanced engine, six-speed transmission, nearly identical chassis geometry, and upright riding position.

As the latest iteration of a bike first coined with this name in 1986, it will displace 45cc more than the fire-exhaling 998cc ZX-10R, albeit with 11.8:1 compression ratio, instead of 12.9:1. Its bore and stroke is 77.0mm X 56.0mm, compared to the supersport's 76.0mm X 55.0mm.

I'm not sure how I feel about this bike.. I guess if it beats insurance compared to the ZX-10R then its a winning situation.

I do like the style but I dont like the fact that they went from Halogen lights back to regular style. Its like back stepping!

The front end looks like a CBR now, lol!

Either way my favorite bikes, always have been. F'n BRUTES I tell you with the power they have. Would love to take one out for a blast.

Sweet looking ride... Thinking of trading in my ZZR600 for something more passinger friendly and something with more power... Just wondering how comfortable the passinger will be on this thing... looks like a dealership test fit is in order when they are available...

Looked good until...

I saw it shares the same gas-guzzling engine from the Z1000, as well as a 500+ lb weight, which is effin' heavy for a bike with this sort of styling. I have a feeling it will throw off more than a few people expecting a super-sport form factor.

Sorry Kawi, but you'll have to try better than this to 1-up the Z750S. Also, going from a 650R to this monstrosity isn't quite the step-up that some people will want to make (myself included).

I'd wait for the Yamaha FZ8, but I've never liked the way Yamaha handles their fuel injection. The FZ6's were all "jumpy", even post-'07, which was supposedly the year they "fixed" the blatantly "on-off" injection problem.

I guess I'll just wait for reviews and user feedback on this thing before I really make up my mind, but for now I'm not sure I'm sold on this one.

I feel it's a waste of time and money for Kawasaki. The Z1000 is great, the ZX-10R is great. Each bike has it's own niche, don't try to combine the two bikes. Focus on the 10R and winning races. BMW set the bar high with the S1000RR. Kawasaki must beat the other guys and get the 10R to the front.

Really guys?!?!?! The Ninja 1000 is just an expansion on the Z1000 platform. It isn't meant to be a ZX10-lite (in hp not lb!). The Z1000 is a great naked streetbike, but some riders prefer some wind protection especially if you plan to ride any distance. So Kawi answered the call for those who want a comfortable bike for lite touring that still has the potential to carve a nice curve. You may not want to ride it cross-country, but cross-state to get to some good roads to rail on would be ideal. I like it.
