Default irregular engine noise!!! Thoughts???

ok well my 08' 250 with 4200 miles, has been making this seemingly random noise... there is a clattering, sounding like there is loose screw bouncing inside at around 8-9k maintianing throttle... it also makes a really anoing noise eaxctly like a small bit of gravle bounced off ur tire and hit some metal, exept im at idle and it doesnt seem rythmic at all...

anyone out there have similar issues? i have tryed seafoam, and no difference has been made...

thanks a lot guys

sounds like it might be pinging. You have any mods to the engine?

yes mine does it bad. It annoys the hell out of me. I shimmed the needles when i got it and checked them to see if they're still in place and they are.

lol... don't be... I haven't fixed anything.

I'd check for any intake leaks. Check the bands that hold the carbs onto the rubber manifolds and at the airbox are not loose.

Also, check your exhaust for leaks at the cylinder heads and anywhere downstream from there to the muffler.

You guys change your oil on your bikes regularly?

also, when did the problems start up? recently or been there a long time?

Maybe it's just the noisy timing chain issue?

Make sure you're not hearing things that aren't really there. This is not a smooth-running engine by any means. My '08 Ninja makes noises warming up and under power that I've never heard in other brands of bikes. It's just a noisy engine. I've had Yamahas that just purred along for thousands of miles, but I seem to hear a new engine noise every time I take my Ninja out for a ride. I'm hoping switching to full synthetic Rotella T this spring will silence at least some of the clicks, pings, knocks and clatters that regularly plague this bike's engine.

alright ill check it thiss weekend, and yes i maitian regular oil changes... i did get this bike used at right around 2000mi i dint notice it then, but i think like true faith said, its a noisy engine and i hadn't got used to the sound. as i got more and more used to it i either started to detect it more easily or it started getting worse. in anycase it was not just one day it was making the noise...

I don't think mine is just a normal engine noise. I thought it might be plastic, like around my gauges, Kinda like a chatter, I've almost wrecked trying to get my ear near the bike while riding haha. and It's always been like that for mine..
