Default Just took my bike out on the road for the first time

Finally got my "Motorcycle Also" added to my license this morning after waiting in line for an hour.

Got all geared up and was sweating like crazy about the first 5 mins in this florida heat.
anyways i Just got back from takin the bike out for the first time. Reminder* im riding around in Orlando traffic. I have a few questions.

First impressions : i thought riding on the road for the first time was going to be somewhat "freaky" but it wasn't bad at all i had a blast. but i feel like the mirrors are hard to get just right

1. say the speed limit is 45 mph, do you guys gradually ease your way up to 45 or do you pretty much always just Get On It when your leaving a stop sign per say until you've reached the speed limit? Or is it just preference? I found i would kind of punch it a bit till the speed limit was reached.

2. Whats the average "cruising" RPM's on the 250? I found if im doing 50mph i would stay in 4th gear and the rmps are somewhere between 6-8g. I suppose i could have shifted to 5th i suppose it would have saved a bit more gas that way but idk. perhaps this is preference too.

3. Super noob question haha just went to get gas for the first time on the 250 payed $7 and got about 2.7 gallons into the tank. i forgot to put the nozzle in the bike before i flipped the thing up and i ended up getting a little gas on the tank, and its not like a car where it will shut off when its full, the whole time i felt like it was going to over flow you can't really see inside there. whats the basic gassin up procedure? haha

1) preference

2) IDK

3) It will shut off if you put the nozzle in the tank, once the nozzle is below the fuel level the pump will shut off

First off, congrats and way to gear up on a hot day. I hope you enjoyed it because there's nothing like riding a motorcycle for the first time.

1. Depends on the mood I'm in.
2. cruising should always be in the highest gear. If course it depends on your definition of cruising.
3. Put the nozzle barely in and stand there and pump it. Don't do the automatic shut off...you won't be standing there long enough to need it. Fill it to just below the metal piece (sometimes it has holes or designs in it). You should be able to see it.

I will sit on bike and balance it straight between my legs as I gas. Put the end of nozzlebarely in and squeeze softly. Will be second nature to you soon. Congrats and ride safe.

Awesome, thanks for the responses guys, ill have to try that next time i fill up.

i just got back from going out and about again for the 3rd time today haha can't get enough of it! i dont even have a destination i was literally just driving around for an hour. and used about 1/8 of my gas so nice.

I found that im actually in 6th gear most of my cruising now that i've gotten the hang of it. seems to be best gear for just maintaining speed above 50. lovin the bike, it is hard to remember to turn the turn signal off sometime though

Wow.. We practically had the same day. Yesterday I went to the DMV for my new license/endorsement. Got my Ninja 250 yesterday and went out riding on the streets for the first time too.

I live in Orlando (east) and I will say the roads aren't as bad as I thought it would be. The traffic wasn't really as intimidating either. I did stall out once and after a honk, I got right back up going. That was pretty scary.. I also can't figure out how to get the left mirror right.. The Florida heat under that helmet is worse than I thought lol but I think I can get used to it.

Otherwise, I'm happy with the Ninja 250 as my first bike. I will say though.. From the outside looking in.. It seemed like the Ninja 250 was the like the perfect bike for normal people who doesn't drive over 90-100mph. But as I'm riding it and shifting gears I'm like yikes I can't even go 10mph without the bike screaming in first gear.. It's only day 2..
