Used 2007, trouble starting, STILL OK 2 buy?
I checked out a used ninja 250r with 9500 miles on it. It was cold outside, the bike wasn't started in a while, there was some fuel left in the tank from a couple weeks back. I started the bike up, idles went to 5-6k, I would just tap the choke and it died, I eventually got it to 1k idles or so by literally closing the choke the smallest increment possible, then I gave it throttle and it died.
I know you're not supposed to give throttle when warming up but I just wanted to test the throttle response. Anyway. I couldn't start it again after that due to what seemed to be a battery issue.
AND I STILL PLAN ON BUYING THE BIKE!
Visually, the bike seemed great: lightly used, good condition. The owner I'm buying it from is the second owner. I chalked up the difficulties of starting the bike up to the simple fact that 1) is was cold and I didn't let sit there for five minutes to warm up which I now know that I should do, 2) old gas/carb cleaner is needed, 3) spark plugs, 4) air/oil filters. Am I crazy for believing that there is really nothing wrong with the bike other than that it needs a little TLC? I could truly tell that everything appeared to be in order, and when I go back, because I actually have my permit now, I will test drive it. But the owner is actually out of town and no one is touching the bike. Someone is charging up the battery though. So if I expect similar difficulties should I really be hesitant in buying the bike? It's clear to me that it just needs some maintenance done.
Please let me know if any ALARMS went off in your guys' heads as you read through this.
