HID's suck

My bike came with "upgraded" headlights, which my dealer mentioned are HID's. They're fine for cars to see that you have a headlight on, but they don't illuminate the road for sh_t. There's literally a black hole in front of me at nighttime. I cannot see the roadway in front of the bike. Yeah, what genius invented these? Needless to say I'm changing them out this winter. I wondered if anyone else has experienced this. My current ride is a 2010. However, even the dated headlight on my former 2007 was far superior to this HID lamp. Any suggestions on a bulb? Thanks.

It's because the stock/reflector housing is not designed to house a HID bulb, therefore the light is reflected all over the place, and generally not where you want it to go.

These are 55w HIDs on my 09 (which did have projectors) - as you can see, the light pattern is actually proper:

Here is what the Phillips Motovision H7 Bulbs look like on high beam during the day shining into a camera lens. Nice white light at night with a long beam.

Proper HID's need to be in a projector housing. I have a 250 headlight retrofited to my fighter with an HID projector setup and the illumination at night is unreal.

i'm willing to bet you probably dont even have HID's. Probably some cheap bulbs off of eBay. I tried some eBay cheapos to hold me over and they were horrible. I stopped riding at night because of them. Didnt feel safe on the dark country roads that I travel frequently.

And then, of course, there is this tutorial HOW-TO: Install BKMOTO BiXenon HID projectors with angel eyes halos 2008+ Ninja 250R

It's a little bit involved and requires slight modification of the headlight housing, but the results look very nice,

odds are they're cheap immitation HID's. check to see what the bulbs look like, if they're hooked to a ballast, etc.

Might be or might not be. Show a photo taken from above or from the point of the rider's eyes so you can see where the lights are hitting the road. I don't know about your riding habits, but I do very little riding in my living room.

I can see that your high beam is massively too high and that the pattern is certainly incorrect but possibly acceptable. Good for lighting up passing aeroplanes though.

As posted, the OP needs to find out exactly what he has fitted. Too many so called 'upgrades' actually make things worse.

Projector HIDS not from the operators view are bright as shit
Last thing I need is to blind someone to death at night and watch their car come into my lane or off the road, then and only then will I ever mutter the words "shit just got real".

All this is just ADVICE because at the end of the day, you can do whatever the FUCK you wanna do.

Whore your slut out
