I bought a 2007 EX250 for my grandson. It hadn't been started for about 8 months. I replaced the fuel and installed a new battery. The bike starts up and runs........But as soon as you put it in gear it dies, the bike doesn't lurch forward, it acts as if the key was turned off. The side kick stand is in the up position.....It revs fine in neutral, but the instant you put it in gear, it dies HELP
Alex, thanks for the reply. The bike is on the center stand and starts right up. The moment you change it from neutral to first gear it dies. Would that be a problem with the switch you described? I guess I'm confused since it actually starts and runs fine, until you put it in gear. Thanks in advance.
The bike will die if it thinks the kickstand is down and in gear. That's a "safety feature".
If the switch is faulty the bike will think the kickstand is always out. Disconnect the switch and bridge the connector with a piece of wire and put it into gear again and see what happens.
Once you confirm that's the problem the switch most likely is under $5. A times they are a pain, but really are a good safety item I wouldn't bypass permanently.
