Ninja 250r idling extremely high (6000-7500 RPM)

So I removed the carbs for the first time about a week ago to clean them in an effort to fix a problem that I've been having with my bike for a while, which was that it would start and run for a while, but would inevitably sputter and die. So I cleaned the carbs really well and put them back, and then I started the bike using the choke since it was cold. Once the bike warmed up the RPM shot up to 7000 RPM.
I have checked everything that I know to check. The choke is off, the idle screw isn't even touching the throttle, the vacuum tube is connected to the petcock, and the carbs seem to be seated into both the engine and airbox correctly. I have read that it could be an air leak in the intake manifold somewhere, but I am unsure about how I would check that.
I miss riding my bike. Its the middle of the summer and I've been working on my bike and its been passing me by. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Probably the first thing to check if you suspect an air leak is that all the hose clamps are in place and are torqued to spec. The next would be to visually inspect all those connections.

It doesn't take much air to cause those symptoms. A small nick in one of the tubes is sufficient to cause that. I had that happen to my bike a while back and it was losing a small amount of coolant when I road. It turned out that one of the hoses had a slight nick in it that was allowing both coolant and air to leak.

I took the bike back and it took the mechanic quite a while to figure out what the problem was.
