Default 650r Smells like Coolant

I just picked up a 2006 650r. It was freezing so did not ride it. I got it home and left it running for a few minutes and I smell coolant. Is that normal? I smell it around the radiator. Not really coming from the exhaust. I am going to do a flush. Please tell me I didn't just buy a bike with a blown head gasket. Anything I should look at? They guy said it ran fine and no issues. I did notice some oil around the drain plug but think that is a bad crush washer. I am going to change the oil right away and check to see if I see any coolant in mixed in there. I could slap myself right now.. Any other suggestions would be great. Is there a trick to draining the coolant? Thanks.

Hey, may want to check that your coolant is not over flowing in the reserve. Also check the water pump gasket.

Kawasaki Ninja 650 Motorcycles

got to this site it has the links to some common and rare occurrences to the 650r.

That website also has the service manual pdf and tons of other information to the 650r. Read through it all.

Good Luck!

I did find a coolant leak coming from teh water pump. I am going to repalce the seals but I have also read that the radiator cap may be bad so going to replace that to and see if the smell goes away.
