Frame sliders a jinx?
I bought a brand new 09 650R in 2 months ago. It's my first bike. I was gonna put frame sliders on it but then thought about it and was like - am i jinxing myself? Its almost like you expect to eventually drop it so you get frame sliders to protect it. What do you guys think? No offense to anyone with sliders, I just feel like its saying to myself "i'm eventually gonna drop it so i'll put frame sliders on it". So instead i'm leaning AGAINST getting them - with the POSITIVE mindset "I'm NOT gonna drop it!"
Thoughts? Opinions?

frame sliders are not to protect the paint finish.. they're not for driveway drops, even though they work well there too...
they're to save your frame if you go down, hence the name
i have them and i have no intention of going down... god forbid if I do though hopefully they'll keep my frame happier than without.

Despite the post above, which I sort of agree with, they save a lot of minor damage when you do daft things like not making sure the bike is fully stable on it's stand.
On your first bike you should be pushing it past its limits, so that you have a good appreciation of where those limits lie. Perhaps not a good idea on a new 650, so you'll have to settle for only halfway learning to ride.

Do NOT get frame sliders! They are absolutely a jinx in the same way that wearing a helmet is. (you're not wearing a helmet are you? )

3 years ago my buddy picked up a brand new 650R. I told him to wait until his sliders came in, but he was excited to ride so we went cruising at 2AM. He stopped in front of me at a left turn light, turned around, gave me the thumbs up then lost his footing. Clack. He then underestimates the weight of the bike while picking it up and drops it a foot off the ground. Clack.
Next day his sliders came in.

Hmmm, intersting conversation. Thing is there's no frame slider that will GUARANTEE to protect your frame- crash hard enough and the slider will fail.
I've even seen some crashes there the slider has done more damage to the frame then if it wasn't there in the first place- Friend suffered a low speed slide and cracked his frame where the slider was attached...
I'm skipping the sliders on my Ninja 650R because the no-cut sliders are all pretty weak and if/when I do dump her well, that's what insurance is for, isn't it?
Keep her shiny side up and Ride On!
