Rotting rubber?

So a while bike I took my fairings of and re installed them. And noticed more than half of the rubber that's on the inside of the fairings (bushings? Rubber holds a small sleeve with threads where our fairings bolt together)

Anybody else have this? My local kawi mechanic said it's fairly common. But id like feedback from you guys as well.

Yep- these Kawasaki well nuts are known for falling apart:

Sucks because they are not cheap! They'll last a lot longer if you cover them with silicone grease.

The rubber doesn't rot. The well nut is compressed and the Kawaski ones don't seem to like re-use as they chew up the rubber.

You can buy them easily on e-bay and they're not expensive if you buy a pack of ten or a dozen. Buy one from Kawasaki and your wallet will cry though.

Don't overtighten them and they'll last a lot longer.

Yeah you can find them for a lot cheaper for all kinds of online retailers. Just Google "5mm well nuts"
