You might even totally void the warranty by tinkering with the issue yourself and then it's a bummer to explain to the dealer that your "intentions" were good when you started working on the issue .

Went to the dealer and he had a look at it, felt the headlight, etc.

It was a microfibre cloth that flicked up from my front tire right into the exhaust headers and it was having a blast of a time down there.

Case closed!

Hot engines smell, especially on new bikes. Hot wet engines smell more. In damp conditions steam comes off the radiator and can look as if it's from the headlamp area. Condensation in that area can also steam off as the heat from the lights lifts it.

And all these things are before you lose mictrofibre cloths or get them stuck in the headers.
