Cold start

Hi it's that time of year when the cold comes and i've noticed that my 08 er6n struggles to start up in the morning and when it does it makes a really loud metal banging noise.

Is this normal? I thought about changing the spark plugs to see if that helps but any help would be appreciated.

Mine starts fine, just have to make sure it's warmed up before I try and go to first gear or it will shut off lol

Those are both odd
The not starting and loud clank is enough to make me take it in or look at it.
-Oil level
-Battery CCA rating?
Outside of that I can't think of what it would be.

The shutting off before warm is odd too. I have got on my a few moments after I start it, it idles high to "warm up" but if you go into gear and clutch out slow the RPM drops because the friction of course. So it dying...running lean?

Some think higher RPM to warm up is proper. Other argue, why sit there and high idle when you let it "warm up" so the oil can circulate.

Good luck guys

Could it just be the engine noise until the oil gets topside ?
What weight oil are you using?

I think it's the oil, I believe the general oil change at 7500miles is way too high.
I do mine at every 4k. although it's not good, cause I know I lost the factory warranty, but better to have the bike(engine) longer than 4 years isn't it?
Car oil change is (was) used to be at every 10k. or 6k.miles, but the factories changed those too to way higher. If you think about it you will realise it's good for them, but not for us.
I'm sure you want your bike engine to live more than 4 years, well they don't really. Just take a look the Japan factory move to Malaysia. Also Yamaha made in China. They would love that if we would buy every 3 year a new bike, but who can afford that?

Anyway try to change the oil. I think the valves make the ticking sound.
You could get Castrol motorbike oil from ASDA, cost 10 each. You need 3 bottle and about 2.5 Liters can take the engine when oil replaced and not dry. Also change the filter, cost 8, it's worth it when you change the oil.
