Okay guys, so I'm a completely new motorcycle rider, only been riding for a few months now. Anyways, I noticed my chain was pretty loose and I wanted to try to adjust it myself. Here's where I screwed up. I missed the memo on loosening the axle nut, and I managed to ruin the threads on the chain tensioner (if that's what you call it). So if you all could help me figure out what the next step is in getting that fixed, I would really appreciate it!
Thank you. I actually just managed to find one on eBay that came off of a bike with 250 miles. At least it only cost me $20. In the future I will do a lot more research before I attempt this sort of this.
Speaking of which, I'll have to remove the axle to replace this part. So, from what I'm reading, I'll put it up on a center stand, loosen the axel nut, completely remove the chain adjustment bolts, push the wheel forward and remove the chain, remove the axel, reopen the brake pads, replace the part, and put it all back together. Am I missing anything? Would really appreciate any tips or advice!
Jake honey I think you need to take it to the dealer. Hey its ok, some of us are meant to only ride our bikes... God gave us all different intellect and even though you are on the deficient side of the spectrum as evidenced by your bonehead move, I am sure you have a lot to contribute. Just not in bike maintenance.
