I chose to just hold the side panels out to the sides to get the tank off..you might just want to remove the panels..

The tools needed or what I used..

The needle can be removed like this..

The needle

Image

The washer is slipped over the needle like so..Use a dab of grease or vaseline to hold the washer in place for installation..I installed just one because I have just ratted out my stock can(see that mod posted in this forum)..I would recommend 2 washers if you are running a aftermarket can or exhaust...I did nothing to the airbox...

This is just a best guess with my experiance and without a air fuel dyno...

Be sure the rubber boot is down in the groove..THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!! You could pinch the rubber and ruin it if not careful..

Image

If the rubber comes out or you elect to remove the slide, put some grease or vaseline in the groove to hold it in place before assembly..

The washer is .025 thick and has a 1/8 inch hole in it..Hobby shop might be a good place to find them.

I can tell it is not quit as cood blooded..That is about it so far..Too cold here to ride much yet..

I have been out riding the bike and this has improved the ride ability...More user friendly..

The main jet tend to make it richer up top..Even though if you raise the needle high enough in the stanction tube it will not be obstructing the fuel flow as much at WFO..

It is going to get down to modding the air box for more air into the engine..To make a big difference...

Common scan that service Manuel for us...whats a few hours of scanning for fellow EX riders..:)

Actually, It would be neat if someone around you had a Wideband... I'd love to see the AFR's on your bike after this esp. on the street vs. the Dyno..

Or, if you have a local Dyno w/ Wideband, Perhaps we can all pitch in a couple of bucks... You know.. In the name of science... Heheh.. ;)

also, I put a plug-large bolt with head cut off in the big tube going to the air box..The one in this picture on top..goes from the top of the valve cover to the air box..On ZRX`s we put block off plates on the valve cover and plug the fitting coming out of the airbox..I just plugged the line, so If I need to change it back I can just take the bolt out of the tube..

Was not going to mention this mod, but I am now..

I have a buddy with a dyno and sniffer..Local Harley independent shop...Rat is pretty busy most all the time..It would be several week before I might get it down there and check it..

kkim if you have a can or full system put 2 washers under it..that would be .050 thickness...you should be just fine...this thing runs better already..and I just have a Ratted out can..

That isn't the same tube that is part of the airbox recall that may cause pressure to build inside the motor causing a gasket falure is it?

The airbox end in the recall tends to be blocked off not allowing it to pull the pressure from the motor which makes the valve cover gasket blow out. is that the same hose that you just pluged hence making this a problem all over again? I'm not being a smart ars I havent been into this bike enough to see everything thats in there yet.

Dont forget you are going to want to remove the plugs from the idle screws as well, as this is what controls the mixture from idle up into the low RPM range along with the pilot jet. Mine was very lean when I switched to the Area P. You will need to remove the carbs to do this.

At around 900ft elevation I turned mine 2.75 turns out from fully seated.

The hole in the slide does go forward to the engine..I think that is the only way they will fit..The wings on the slide are off center if I remember correctly...

I assume if the needle hold down only goes in a certain way also..Till it seats properly..

Ya, the air screws are the next thing that need adjusted..Removing the carbs...I will wait awhile for that..or not who knows..

so kkim how would you rate this mod for a newbie like me with bikes?

i have the washers already and i just gutted my exhaust out a lil and i would love to get rid of that lag. could i handlel the install. should i worry and not do it?

Thanks for the great info. I am just about to pick up my bike, and already have the Area P exhaust sitting here waiting to be put on. In your opinion, would you think that this method works fairly well enough to not get the recommended jetkit, saving $90? Would there really be any benefit in getting the jetkit instead?

With how rich the bike is on the top end, would you think maybe a different main jet to lean it out a bit would improve it as well? Any more info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yep read through them all of them. Just wanted to make sure that nothing is different on the 08 versus before. Like you said before on the first page, its worked on the previous models, and u were hoping it would have the same effect on the 08. Just wanted to know from your experience from tinkering with an actual 08.

UC, when you raise the needle you are giving it more fuel at WFO..The needle is not retricting the fuel as much as before at all throttle positions..Untill you change the air box-or mod it..I personally do not think you will need much of any main jet changes..The airbox can only take in so much air in stock form..

Removing the snorkel might be the ticket..

They tell you to use the washers above the clip, BECAUSE the clip is .025 and the stock needle at the top is .050 at least..So you add them on top to keep the needle tight under the plastic spring deal...If you dont use them the DJ needle will rattle around in the slide..

Also remember that Dyno Jet main jest sizing is not the same a Kehin sizing..Meaning a 100 DJ is not a 100 Kehin..I will find the coversion chart and post it sometime..

I been riding the R1 and the Busa today..Man, everyone in a ricer car with fart can or Mustang has wanted to mess with me today while on the Busa..They all just seen my tailights and back tire..I never got over 130mph according to my gps..

Time to get back on the Ninja before I get a ticket..I got licky today..Even see a Harley crash on a exit ramp..Well I came up on it after the EMS arrived..
