2. Michelin Pilot Road 4 for great wet traction and long life- keep the tire pressure at the upper end of the range or they will wear quicker, including bad cupping for the front tire.
3. Dunlop Roadsmart 2 for better hot dry traction than the above Michelin, and long tire life. A good tire for dry areas in Arizona and Utah, or someone that avoids riding in the rain.
4. Dunlop Q3 for maximum traction (other than full race tires) and shorter life, for people that scrape their knee sliders.
For a cruiser or tourer, the Michelin Commander 2 is my choice for very long life.

My 2008 ZZR600 has Michelin Pilot Road 3s on it now.
I am considering going to Michelin Commander IIs next, since I only rarely ride in the rain and take corners at a more legal speed, for longer tire life instead of more grip.
The problem is that the closest sizes available for the Michelin Commander II are 140/75/17 front and 200/55/17 back, V speed rated to 149 mph.
Are these sizes close enough to the stock 120/70/17 front and 180/55/17 back sizes? Would the front fender need to be raised higher?
This spring 2016 Youtube sports touring tire comparison test has the Metzeler tires on top, however the results probably only apply to the fairly heavy BMW sports tourer used during the testing:

Based on the video below, one tire size larger will probably work, although it will likely affect the handling- probably not a big deal for someone who started riding on the streets in 1980:
