Didn't realize they locked to the right, guess 'cause I've never tried that way. I always thought you were supposed to lock them to the left. Learn something new every day

To the left is the unofficial standard as it puts more weight on the side stand making it harder to push the bike up and over accidentally.
To the right makes the bars and controls easy to access when your starting the bike from the left side while on the side stand. If you have a short stand or a surface the stand might sink in, to the right puts less weight on the stand so it's less likely to fall over or sink in and fall.
Most all bikes with steering locks will lock in either direction, I've yet to see one that only locked in one direction.

I dont know where this guy is coming from, because i have yet to see one that locks in both directions. Mine locks to the left, if i try and turn the bars to the right and turn the key, it doesnt turn to the 'lock' position. Its been that way with all bikes i've ridden, Japanese, European and American.

If i am not mistaken you cannot lock the bars unless they are to the far left. However you can put your bike in the park light mode which leaves the front nose light (on the 07-08 zx6r) and the license plate light on. That may cause people to think they are locked

Whelp, i can do neither on my bike, so there must be many different styles of ignition lock floating around out there.
Make the right choice: just turn left. Its whats best for the children.

your right, bars have to be all the way to left to lock. same or the parking lights to be on. bars to the left then key all the way to the right and the nose light andstuff will stay on and you can take the key out
