It's more dangerous, IMO, to sit in traffic gridlock, then to split. Under 25 mph, you'll be fine.

A lot of hypocrites here that say they refuse to split because it's dangerous yet I'm sure they do 100+ regularly out on the street with their way-too-powerful machines.

Yes. Pretty much every time I ride. It will be one of the things I miss most about CA when I leave in two weeks.

I ride similar to this.

Not to start a fight, but lane sharing is "asking for something bad to happen" as opposed to going how fast on your 12??

Also, a lot of freeways have carpool lanes that only allow merging in and out of them in certain areas so you can ride/split on the right side of that. The lane rules don't prevent people from merging across the double yellow, but when people do it they usually look around for cops so you can tell they're looking to move. Also remember that sometimes, more throttle or swerving is better than grabbing a ton of brake. Situational awareness is key.
She nailed it.

I was a little bit nervous doing it when we first moved out here, but after one month, I couldn't imagine not doing it.

BTW-I'm not reading all 3+ pages.

There is a ton of space b/t lanes for a sportbike. more than a 2 feet on either side.

you don't need to be a squid or a yahoo to lane split in CA. it's just normal out here.

I have split cars on the freeway at +70 speeds b/c they were pacing each other and locking me behind them...

I split lanes when riding on the street in California. Wouldn't do it here, and I sure as shit wouldn't do it in Washington. Most of those people up there have no rhyme or reason when it comes to changing lanes.
