Was stuck in traffic on my bike last night. Sitting there waiting patiently. After a few minutes considered zipping down the right side Shoulder to get to my exit.
But, I didn't.
Although it got me to thinking about when I was in California stuck in gridlock traffic and a bike comes blasting inbetween cars. Thinking that must be nice in certain situations.
Not sure I would feel comfortable doing it in moving traffic. Can’t do it in North Carolina anyway.
So for all you CALIFORNIA Riders. Do you Split Lanes.?
And for everyone else, WOULD YOU, if it was legal in your state. ?

I'd probably do it if i was stuck in gridlock regardless of if it was legal. Although I'd probably just go on the shoulder of the road and not in between the lanes. If somebody was to open their door at the wrong time it could get nasty lol
Yes. Although I respect the speed differential. If traffic is parked (as it often is in San Diego and L.A.) then I'll do 20mph between cars. If traffic is moving up to perhaps 20mph I'll hit 40-50mph. Some fuck faces will do 70mph+ between cars regardless of the speed differential though and that blows my mind.

Lane splitting is just asking for something very bad to happen.

Going to class last week, the highway was backed up two to three miles. Traffic was barely moving so I did it. Had I not, I would have pretty much missed class. That's maybe the second time I've done it in little over a year of riding.
