i have a fly paradigm helmet in matte(flat) black very reputable and more affordable then the big name brands. check out the review on you tube.

honestly? i don't. i value my body parts a little more than that.

i've used hjc helmets in the past, but i would consider that the cheapest i'm willing to use to protect my head. i'd look at speed & strength, bell, shark, or agv if i were you. if you want to spend more, check out arai and shoei. but, i suspect you're on a tight budget. make sure the helmet you end up with is at least snell rated.

gloves? think about the very first thing you do when you hit the ground is. you put your hands down. gotta have good gloves. i use held phantoms and knox handroids. i can tell you from personal experience that a good set of gloves will keep you out of the burn-unit if you fall off your bike. i slid about 250ft on my face and hands and i didn't have a scratch on either one.

don't go cheap on gear or you may wish you hadn't...

i had JR speedmaster gloves and highsided ONE TIME. blew out the outter seam on both gloves... no broken bones or rash luckily, but damn. for a $140 set of gloves (what i thought were good gloves) i expected MUCH more out of them.

i've been rocking the held phantoms since. no problems. in fact, i just washed and conditioned them, and they're ready for season #4.
