Hi there

Lately it seems to me that the trend for girls getting a bike goes more to the older models.

It could be a bad reference but the last couple girls that introduced themselves, ride a dinosaur like me.

Who of the guys would buy something that's older than 5yrs except they already struggle to afford the bike, not having bought proper gear yet.

I think we can still put some love towards our "older" machines.

Just weird how us girls, being so concerned about fashion and looks, like the retro looking kind of bike.

I love mine to death! ... hope i won't kill myself on it when taking it to the track For me it has a pretty face, a mean grin but one I can trust. I'm one with my bike and thank it when not throwing me off after I made a little mistake.

Of course most of us probably find the new bikes sharp looking, just why did one or the other not go for a newer model, why deciding for what you have right now?

Hope this makes for a good little discussion thread Just something that was going on in my mind right now.

I personally (no offense) do not really like older bikes... I have an 07 zx6r and the oldest 6 that i actually like would be like a 05 ish... i love the sleek lines and corners on the newer bikes i dislike the bulky boxy look like the 96 zx6 or the 2000 gsxr 600...

I also prefer the newer bikes. I can appreciate older bikes and older styles... but I like to ride newer shtuff

I'm no fan of the gixxer before 2004 or 98-2000 zx6r. The R6 looks ok, but a lot better since 2006!
I don't really like the look of the 2000-2002 ZX6R, except for the yellow cuz the stripes and big air duct intake that looks like a huge lip, and reminds a bit of a bumble bee.
No offense here again, just like it in yellow and no other color or even the solid colors on the ZZR from 05-08.

I like the CBR600s from 2007 - now. Kinda retro on the front but still kinda cool when you actually stand in front of one.

Older bikes are more cost effective for someone starting out and not entirely sure if they're really into this sport or not. Women are far more logical when it comes to money. Buy something older and less flashy and learn on it and see if they like it before dropping major coin on something new.

I love my 2001 ZR-7S to death. I'll never give her up. Ever. She's been through hell and back with me, and she's incredibly comfortable for long trips. She moves quick when she needs to and gives me all the freedom and happiness I've ever experienced on 2 wheels. Just because she's old does not mean she's not capable.

My 2010 ZX-6R is 1000 times more amazing for things like speed and agility, so that is his purpose. But I'd never want to ride him more than a few hours because he's not as comfy as the old girl. I love him to death, tho. I had to save for 3 years!

I decided on an older bike because I like how they're more upright. I decided on getting a 99' or lower because the new ones are way too much of a laying on top of your gas tank position for me. Either that or I was going to get a Buell

My bike is still gorrrrgeous and I absolutely love it.

but the new ones are a lot shorter to the handlebars except you go for a newer 1000cc SS bike, then you're a bit more stretched out again.

My 3 bikes were new. The dealerships didn't have anything used to fit me, and on top of that, they were asking only little less money than they wanted for new bikes. I'm not a mechanic, and didn't have a clue about bikes, when I started, and I packed all extended warranty and pre-paid-unlimited-miles-service plans on it that I could get (not available for used bikes). And I've been using it, too!
As far as 'classics' go, one of these days I'll hunt me a Honda Blackbird...

I also like newer bikes (sport) but for cruisers older bikes are nice as well.
