Hi,

I'm about to buy a 2009 Z1000 but my friend thinks it may have an engine from an 03-06 bike. Reason he says this is because he believes 03-06 engine numbers start with ZRT00A and 07-09 start with ZRT00B. The one I'm about to buy has an engine number ZRT00AE-060809.

Can anyone please confirm if he is correct or not please?

It is quite possible. The frame and external engine casings/dimensions are the same on all the z1000's from 03'-09'. The only differences to the 07'-09 were different cams/valves/ and exhaust cans, so it's possible to bolt an 03-06 in there

Just had an email from Kawasaki customer service and they confirmed it is from a 2009 ZR1000C9F so all good. Thanks for the reply though.
