Z900 hype!

Anyone else excited for the Z900?? I'm very much considering it as a next bike at some point!

I think that it's a good bike but with unclear targeting.

It seems like Kawasaki's frantic response to Yamaha's MT-09 / FZ9

The Z800 made sense as an upgraded Z750 with better peripherals. Now they've re-named the Er6/650R, which was never a Z bike performance or style wise, as Z 650.

The Z900 is actually 950cc and since there is already a Z1000 and Z1000R in the mix it doesn't make sense as anything else than a direct MT-09 / FZ9 rival.

Despite the great reduction in weight though it's still nowhere near the MT-09 / FZ9's weight and the big four banger will never match that Yamaha triple in certain areas so it doesn't really make sense this way either...

The Z1000 is being phased out, as sales have never been great & don't come close to the faired SX.
The R version is pretty much a last Hoorah to see it out - this came from the guys on the Kwak stand at MotorcycleLive

Personality helps, but ATTITUDE is everything!

It still doesn't make sense to me

Why not call it the new Z1000 then? I mean, who wants a 1000 naked that is called Z900

There is no way that one bike can cover three market voids, it can't be a Z800, a Z1000 and an Mt-09/FZ9 rival at the same time

Not to mention that there isn't any middleweight Z bike left in the range.

It seems to me that we have to tip our hats to Yamaha, they effectively copied the Er6-n with the 7 and developed an amazing three cylinder engine instead of presenting old engines as new with the 9 and offered both in ridiculously low prices. Despite questionable build quality in some places they totally shook the market. Not to mention that only they will be offering a "new" 600SS for 2017!

Just ordered mine a few weeks ago, performance edition (Akra slip on, small fairing, single seat thingie and tank pads) Arrives first week of April, hopefully about the same time as spring. Was choosing between the MT-09, Street triple and Z800 when this popped up.

Congrats, as I wrote above, classification and naming aside it seems to be an amazing bike so let us know of your impressions in a couple months!

And happy nail biting until then

Can't wait to see those! I think in a couple years i'll sell my 03 636 on craigslist, take the money and put it down on maybe a leftover model from the previous year, and get myself into one of them. I love my 636, but damn haha it can hurt the wrists after a while. Definitely want something more upright, and everything about that z900 just screams "Buy Me" haha.
