Hi,

I've found a nice 04 ZX-6RR. Thing is I'm not finding much info about this low production bike. I'm looking for a 2nd bike mainly for the track and some occasional road use. So far I've been focusing on the 04/05 GSX-R 600 due to parts availability and the prices of used bikes. But this Ninja is nice. It doesn't have a damper though and raises the question. Is this ZX-6RR prone to tank slaps at high speeds, more than the Gixxer? Does it need a damper? Would parts availability and cost be an issue as well due to its low production? Although it seems much of it is the same as the ZX-6R. From the little I've found online this bike is designed for the track so it would fit that purpose well. The slipper clutch would be a nice feature. However I read in one article it may be prone to some head shakes. I'd appreciate any opinions or knowledge on this machine. Thank you!!!

I've had a few ZX6R's without the Dampener. I've even rode the RR model you are speaking of and felt the forks were a bit spongy. I've had a few close calls where I was braking and hit a slick spot and the front forks just kinda started to dance into tank slapper mode. I've somehow managed to get it straight but it was a scary situation. Both times I've experienced this it was under early morning conditions where it was slightly foggy with a little condensation on the road.

After the second time, I've never road another sport bike without a dampener. I like the feeling of the front being solid. However. If you are tracking the bike and are at optimal conditions, a dampener will only help you. So you might as well pick one up.
