resurrection mode:engaged.

so i got like, 3 "new" turbos now. one of which is UBER and WAYYYyyyYYy too big for the bike, but the other two are Ko3s off a vw and audi A4.

AND i finally have headers.. once i get some shit done here in the next week or so i suspect maybe i'll start fucking around wit this ish again. knock out the headers. machine some flanges, make some adapters so i can run the v dub turbo on a T3 flange ( since i want to ultimately run the garrett for overall power, but want the small snail for fast spooly madness)

thats all i got. you just got excited for nothing, basically. well. couple weeks i hope.

pray to whatever god works for you that i find some kinda fire under my ass to do something.

been a while since i updated this.. mainly because i haven't had money to do anything.

i swear every time i mention a job i end up losing it, but i work at a machine shop now.. so thats pretty sweet in regards to making cool shit happen now. i started back on the EFI stuff as well. got a rotor machined out and have tuner studio on the computer and have been trying to learn it. (more on that in the EFI thread.)

i plan on machining some flanges soon. i am trying to design an adapter as well for running the K03 and TB22 on V bands without having to weld the V bands directly to the turbos. the v bands are actually a bit pricey! i think like, $84 a piece.. i can DEFINITELY make them with EASE on a lathe... the only thing i'll have to buy is the actual clamp.

i still don't really know what i want to do with this. i'd LIKE to have a common flange.. i will most likely put a ko3 on for fun to see what it does and what i have to do to fueling.
oh i got ANOTHER ko3 now.. an ugly one off a jetta that isn't too far from needing rebuilt, but it was free. i just re-read this entire thing.. turns out i got a TON of free shit!

anyway.. between learning some new tricks for cleaning stuff and just some stuff in general, i will hopefully soon rebuild the TB22 and have it ready to go on. gonna try the ko3 first since it'll spool sooner and will help me nail in tuning a bit lower.

hopefully i'll have this thread at full blast again in a few weeks or months.. maybe.

that shop i used to work for with the dyno folded up, so i will sub that out.. i think i have an angle i will play. .i will be recruiting the help of local tuning shop Carolina Dyno, who specializes in cars.. they want to adapt their shit to work on bikes.. so maybe i can trade something for some dyno time and tuning help.

iiiiii dunno. i'll figure something out. i also became massively addicted to road course riding.. so i spent much of the past summer at the track. the LSR thing will probably happen just for a record and then the bike will be used to piss people off on the street.. and MAY see some twisty track action for fun.
so many things are up in the air and have changed.

i know one thing.. the passion i had for spinning wrenches at the beginning of this shit is LONG gone now.. now it's more of a job. lol which sucks.. thats also why i no longer work on bikes for a living..

Yo what happened?!?! I've been reading this fukin big ass thread like the bible and it just dropped off?? Any progress yet? Dang I wish I could see this end, anyway quick question, I got my own turbo bike project I'm workin on, its an old school Yamaha, xs850 cafe style, just wants to know more on this thermo expansion stuff you were talkin about, I was ready to weld my headers up and teh plan was to have the snail right under my ass shootin straight into the engine, now I feel like I got it all backwards and I gotta figure how to mount it right off the header, which probably means a second oil cooler to cope with the turbo heat, how much more efficient is it to have the turbo 6 inches down the exhaust vs 3 feet??

Anyway I hope you get the ambition back to finish this, I've been goin through hard and depressed stages of puttin this together over the last year, it always helped to hear some bikes spool up on YouTube, but what really got me kickin again was to watch some punk ass kid race my same bike out on the 1/4 mile, ran 13 sec stock, but talkin to him in the pits I realized he was a complete moron and got a lucky buy when he bought the bike, now he thinks he hot shit and I wanna finish this before they close the strip for winter so I can put him in his place!
Best of luck

You'll need to wrap your exhaust to keep the heat in if you're going to mount the turbo under the seat. The XS 850 is a low red line engine and as such you'll need a smaller turbo so it'll spool and provide a useable boost range. Good luck with the project. I'd like to see some pictures of it.

Oh cool, ya I looked at goin to efi, then I added up the price, so I proceeded to learn how blow through systems work, that'll be a Nasty bike though if he finishes the efi, ya mine redlines at 9k, but with the appropriate gearing I can still make it rocket off, the turbo I got is some cheap ass tiny little off brand thing, can't remember what I measured on it, thought ill try it since I have it, if doesnt work then ill start shoppin for one, ya I was gonna wrap the pipes at least, if not coat them, my welder just fell through though so I'm tryin to find someone to weld up my header for a decent price, that or I'm gonna buy a mig and teach myself.. not much to show for yet, but ill see about gettin some pics soon
