whitey's turbo build thread
might as well.. sorta halfass started on it the other day. have a few snails to play with.. got the motor back to the house since it was where i used to work at.. since it was here and i had a boring weekend, i spent hours going deaf with a grinder to make the 954 exhaust fit the .040" smaller exhaust port bores.
took the TB22 apart to start cleaning it. it's been rebuilt once already back in 2003.. i should probably do it again, but i can't get the wheels to hit the scroll.. so, fuck it. i'll run it til i find something else.. lol
have to make a trip up north soon i think because i'm pretty sure somehow i forgot the adjustable cam gears
also missing head bolts, but am planning on running ARP studs.. so, fuck those bolts.
well, after 2 days of grinding and sanding and whatnot, got 3 pipes to fit. lol.. ran out of cut-off wheels. sucks.. but, it's a start.
stock pipe and the modded pipe and flange. the holes in the flange were off just a tiny bit.. matco carbide burrs to da rescue.
had to remove about .020" the whole way around the fuckin thing to make em fit.. shit sucked.
alot.
hate grinding metal. lol next time, i'm buying pipe, a bender, and making those little rings to fit on a lathe.
fuck modding shit.. BUT, it was free, so, fuck it.
gonna offset the snail so it's hidden in the bodywork.. not sure yet how high i wanna mouint it.. it'd be easier to sling it WAY low under the radiator and use some sorta pump to pull oil out and back into the pan, but i really don't wanna do that.. will probably fab a custom bracket up, mod the bodywork and move the radiator forward 3" at the top and 5 at the bottom if i can.. that way i can run the charge piping straight to the intercooler without any stupid bullshit going on with the piping
so, heres 3 of the 4 pipes.. they're a little far out and i'll probably end up bending them a bit more. thought of armadillo bends, but i don't like that shit for something that'll be structural as this will be holding the turbo up.. so, fuck cutting and welding.. gonna pack those pipes with sand and bend the fuckers til i like them.
gonna run 1 into 2 and 3 into 4 and bring both those down into the collector.. but i have some extra pipe, so i might be able to pair them so the exhaust pulses aid in cylinder scavenging.. then again, i'm not even sure on the firing order. .lol.. would actually be better to build around the firing order! haha.
i have some trickery shit up mah sleeve.. not gonna say tho. .secret race trick. you'll see it after i get pics and run it/test it to see how effective it is.. might have to play with that setup i'm trying to perfect the shit and how it works.. as a hint tho, it'll help with spooling.. thats all i'm gonna say on that.
once i get the tank filled for the tig rig, ima start cutting and tacking pipes up and fabbing the airbox.. maybe.. still would rather spend the money on the CBR throttle bodies... being that EFI is the ultimate goal.. so, lets see if i can't maker this all happen!
no time frame on this yet.. all revolves around money.. but a realistic goal could be 12 months with efi and tune done, and several LSR records under the belt. a few months should a better job pop up. HP goal is between 250-300 at the wheel. MPH goal is 210 or better.. with 300hp i should be able to get 230mph with ease.
lots of little things in development as well.. we'll see whats in store for the blue beast.

got ya covered aaron. lol
hopin i land the public utility job that has a $50K salary!! hha.. then i'll be buying the "right" shit instead of modifying free stuff..
cost of build so far?
$90.
$70 for the TB22
$20 for the intercooler.
misc stuff..
factory pro cam gears-$50
factory pro ign rotor-$45 i think.. Mark Salvisburg FTMFW.
wish list
carillo H beams-$1050
ferrea valves- probably about $400-600
kibblewhite Ti retainers- $551
JE pistons-guessing about $800 or so..
EFI TBA. not sure on if that'll be a megaquirt-based rig or a factory ECU based one..
$80 for CBR1000 TBs tho.. add that to the list. lol
all metal was free as well. perks of being a machinist at one time
motor was free
exhaust was free
love free shit.

i am, in all actuality, probably gonna blow thru the carbs on stock internals and all just to see what happens.
until this motor is built and the efi works, and i have a weekend to simply swap motors, i will play on the street with a blow-thru carbed setup.
might blow up, might not. my homey Doug Meyer ( of muzzy fame, engineer behind the raptor) tells me the rods are good to 500hp. i have seen the cases hold 450 or so in the 9Rs as well.. so, being this is about the same case as the 9R, i think this whole motor should be able to handle 500hp.. but i'm not gonna go that far with it.. not just yet. lol
funny thing is, the outside main bearing for the crank has a little oil gally running to it.. the motor was busted once and some stupif fucking twat JB welded that oil passage off.. BRILLIANT. sounds like #1 has just the SLIGHTEST knock, but i couldn't pinpoint it.. but it's a VERY very faint knock for sure.. whether it's a rod tho, not positive.. might not be.. could be wristpin slap, could be transmitted valvetrain noise.
might get drunk one day and cam it, throw a shot of nitrous on it, throw it on the dyno and crank the boost to 40psi haha..
i DO have plans on a 1000HP ZX14 in the ( far?) future as well.
just a dyno queen and LSR star. once the shop opens and money rolls in, wanna pick up another 7R/RR and make it a nasty track bike since i like twisties a bit more that fast fast fast in a straight line.
