Extended swingarm?

exactly what does doing this do for the bike? From what I've read, doing this modification literally "extends" the bike. I also get the impression its used for dragging the bike, and this mod helps keep the front down. What are the downsides and somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

yes. It will both literally and illiterally extend the bike. it will keep the bike down.

Upsides. By having a the point where the entire bike might pivot off of, it takes more force for the bike to come off of the ground therefore keeping it planted and using more of its power to propell rather than controlling pivot.

Downsides. Pretty fucking gay if you arent dragging the bike.

pretty much for people who cant control their bike and are not willing to take the time to learn how to. instead they pay 1000$ to help their launch and publicly let everybody know their a newb. got it

No, they put it on there because they think it looks cool and makes other people think that they ride fast, when in reality it's the exact opposite.

Extended swingarm on a SS bike = carbon fiber wing on a civic

You can spend $1000 on it if you want, but everyone else will immediately know that you're not out there to ride, you're out there to be seen.

There is absolutely NO reason to extend a (relatively) stock 600. They don't make enough power even if you are draging it. And if you ride the bike on the street it is going to turn like a bus.

Adding an extended swing-arm is NOTHING like turboing a 600. Boosting a bike takes thought and engineering, doesn't ruin the handling, and is not something the average person can tackle. Please don't compare the two in the same sentence.

It helps on drag bikes because it lengthens the wheelbase (which helps stops the bike wheeling - wheelies are not good for drag racing). But realistically, as Tough-Guy said, most 600s are going to lack the power for this to be a problem anyway.

Now, i'm assuming the Civics you get there are the same as here - e.g. Front Wheel Drive? I was told once that a rear spoiler of any type is a complete waste of time on a FWD car. I don't know for sure but it'd be nice if it was true.

More for aesthetics than anything else...I really don't dig the "stretched" blinged out sportbike look, but different strokes...yadda, yadda....

I'd leave the owners of extended bikes alone! Everybody has different tastes and purpose for the their bikes!

I don't think extending the bike makes it useless! they can still ride to the grocery store...

Plus, I think the majority of ppl who have extended bikes, also own a regular one....

a 600 was made for handling... why would u want spend money to ruin that?? :(

i got a great deal on my 600 that i couldn't pass up. i want to drag it and want to make it as quick as possible in a straight line. This is why i started this thread, but after hearing all the facts, imo its not worth the money and cost of handling.

i got a 10 inchs extention and a 240 and get all the way down as far as the rear tire allows. dont listen to the haters. a 300 to a 360 wide tire is a completely diifrent story. if u stretch the stock tire u can easliy drag knee.
I ain't hatin! Just physics at work. You can drag anything you want and probably do it easier than on a stock bike because you will need more lean angle to follow a stock length bike at the same speed on the same road. That's all I was explaining to the OP. Peace man. We all like to ride.......

It make the bike turn a lot slower. For any given lean angle a shorter bike will turn a tighter line. that being said you will run out of clearance or tire if you try to keep up with an unextended bike on a curvy road. You can set your suspension to handle the longer swingarm by changing the shock/spring combo but, it just won't turn as quick.
Some people like the look of the extended swingarm.... each to their own! Just know it will make it turn a whole lot slower.:D

I tried getting a longer swingarm once, but after like a month of putting extenze pills in the gas tank, i wasn't seeing any difference so i gave up.

i take it alot of those who have commented on how useless and shitty a stretched bike is probably never rode one in their life.

love it. guesses always rock.

i suppose my bike sucks dick with handling cuz it's low too?
christ.

you're extending the wheelbase. if the stock ride height is maintained, you're NOT fucking up any handling at all.
you're making the bike impossible to wheelie. thats it.

yes, i personally have lost a bit with my bike being slammed, but i promise you i'd still scare most of you in the twisties.

a combo of slam/stretch might affect streetability as far as the bike will be a tad bit bouncy due to the added leverage to the suspension and it's new ability to compress the spring at a faster rate, but nothing a lil suspension tuning won't iron out.

RIDE a bike before you comment on it or it's accessories.. ( to those of you who don't work on bikes for a living or have limited experience on a vast array of machines)
