fuel pump won't turn on.

The pump works when i connect it directly to the battery.

When the key is turned the pump does not prime or turn on.
I just checked all the wires associated for connectivity, no problem.
Tried a new fuel pump relay. same result. nothing.

Help?

If the bike is running , the fuel pump is working.

the pump doesn't pump and prime till the start button is pressed(and only when pressed and bike is running)....take the fuel pump off and remove the black cover, there is a set of points in there....clean and file them.....make sure the inline small filter at the spot where you connect the fuel line to the carbs isn't full of real small crap, restricting flow.

Hi,
What badassjake said is exactly right.
I had the same prob. Bike started, idle'd and just died. Never turn on after that.
I stripped it down to fuel pump, pulled it apart and also (yes, tastes crap) sucked and blew into the pump to make sure it still pumps, and now its been running fine for over 8 months. Never touch it since.

Replace your filter too, and just double check your fuel line for a blockage. It could be blocked up and not letting fuel flow properly, which is why it works on startup only.
