Choke this bike?
I know this may sound....dumb....but I am going to ask it anyway because there are a lot of smarter people on here than myself.
When do I use the choke on this bike? (08 zzr600 2k miles)
Obviously when you first start the bike....
But when I put the choke on before I start it, it takes alot more to get it started and sometimes will back fire.
When I start it and pull the choke on after, it will kill it.
I can start it no problem everytime without the choke but if i rev it a lil it will kill it. (only for fist few minutes its been started) and sometimes will just drop rpm's and die.
I find myself having to start it, pull the choke on, it dies, starting it again and pulling the choke again and and it functions like it should.
Now I am new to this carburetor thing, I also recently picked up an 01 250 and the choke has never done that to this bike works like it should.
Could somebody tell me what I am doing wrong on this zzr?

Try using partial choke on warmer days. The choke richens the fuel mixture to help the engine start when it cold (the engine, not the weather).

When I only use half choke, it seems as if it makes no difference at all...runs like it would with me not using the choke at all.
Now that I think about it, I might just be impatient, wanting to hear my bike rev up right away.
I am guessing the bike will rev up on half choke after a few seconds but I'm not giving it enough time. Will have to try that.

i have the same bike with same amount of miles. choke halfway, maybe 60% on a 70 degree day. Always starts right up, if it rev's to high just lower the choke a little. on a warmer day if i put the choke all the way up the bike will rev at like 4k.

carb needs cleaning only after 2k miles? what would cause that?
and like i tried saying, when I pull the choke on after I already started the bike, it kills it. half way 3/4 way or full all kill it (only first time) works great second try.
Should I be pulling the choke on say halfway BEFORE I start it?

How warm is it out side when you do this? If its warm enough for the bike to crank up & idle...... thin you don't need the choke. If its running right after 2-3 minutes.. your good. But I would check the carbs & air filter. make sure you got good clean gas too.

yea you only need the choke when its colder out. if the air temp is over like 65 to 70 i dont really use the choke. and its stalling when you rev it rite away because its carbed and your not letting it warm up.

thats what I figured, I'm just being impatient I guess. Thank you all for your quick responses.
I may have left this out: It won't actually crank (choke or no choke) without me giving ti a lil gas while starting it. IS that normal?
