Wanted to add to the awesomeness of the other bikes here
A little back story
I rode a 99 Ninja250 for about 2-3 years sold it before my deployment. When I got back I wanted a motorcycle so bad I had to buy one. Found a 2001 ZX6R from a squid who treated her badly. He put blue lights on her and tried to wheelie the bike and failed.......TWICE. So initially both side fairings were effed up. I bought it for $2000 in January with 30,000 miles she is now at 35,000+. I had an accident with her, a woman in an SUV pulled out in front of me and slammed on her brakes for a funeral coming out, and I stoppied the bike and it fell on the sides....she gt me new fairings

but I also cracked my elbow in 3 places

. Enough of that lets get to the bike

Just a few questions and comments. What is 10W40 suspension fluid? You're not putting motor oil in your forks are you? Your stock forks take 10W fork oil.

And what's this about a shim to increase rebound? The 07/08 ZX6R shock is a great shock by itself, so I'm curious as to what the point is on this modification.

Lastly a K&N filter isn't a mod, it's actually an inferior oil filter that's really only good for racing since it has the nut on the end for safety wire and it gets changed more regularly than it would on a street bike. There's a lot of discussion on this here.

Personally I wouldn't put headlight covers on any motorcycle...or well any vehicle for that matter, but especially not a motorcycle. 1) it's kind of squiddish, and 2) you need all the visibility you can get . Just my two cents on that.

Still in the military? I did 8 years of that shit. Glad it's over, but I do have a lot of fond memories and saw a good bit of the world (well a good bit of what's worth seeing).

I meant 10W, its the red bottle medium weight xD

The K&N oil filter, mine is safety wired on the bike for track days instead of mod should be add-on

The headlight covers block 80% of the light only used in the daytime and trackdays if riding at night you can just pop them off, a tad bit easier than having to tape them up and pull them off, I've got them on the R1 fairly useful.

Yeah still in the military I've got 5 more years Nat Guard, once finished with school I want to go back active and work on my Warrant officer pack.

Now that shim, a friend on ZX6R.com he is also on hereManess1220 told me about the shim that he did. He also has a tad bit longer dog bones made for him. Well this summer at the dragon he gave it to me and told me to put it on. I've got it on the bike but since my collar bone is broken I haven't had the chance to try it out yet. You simply stick the shim above the shock bracket.

Yes I know Michael, he's good people. That shim just raises the ass end of the bike up since the newer shocks are shorter than the old J shock. Shorter dog bones will do the same trick but shimming the shock can be more precise to get it just right. Doesn't change how the damping works.

Headlight covers are legal on the track? I figured they wouldn't be since you could crash and they'll pop off. Headlights on during the day does help with visibility, so I wouldn't compromise them. Your bike though, so whatever's clever. Drivers here in Va are fucking all over the place, so I need all I can get.

Depends on the track when we go to Barber we still have to use tape but at little Tally they ok it as long as it is secured by a bolt, screw, safety wire etc...

That shim is really just a washer but much thicker. When I did mine it brought this forum to its knees.

On a second note, you're on your way to wasting shed loads on mods because your current setup isn't exactly "modded". Sell the bike for newer and you get all the mods that work perfectly out of the box.

Just a snippet of things to come:

1. Fork upgrade - PITA - custom fab. ~$400 used
2. Swingarm - easy - $150 used
3. New wheels + rotors - easy - $400 used
4. Custom jetting and tune - PITA = $$$ time is money
5. R6/R1 mater cylinder + Nissin 4 pots - $300
and so on...

^^ now that's a modded bike. And if you aren't broke yet, please paint the bike to something decent. Bumble-bee yellow/black is a total girly color.

This is just my commuter/street/out of town riding bike
I'm just getting the bike to what I want, I have a track bike to all out on.

Well, there's nothing street-like about a zzr. It's a SS bike, despite the taller handle-bars. I'm sure adding a much stiffer rear shock wouldn't help either.
