Valve clearance - when to check?

Does anyone know if I should check my valve clearance? Is it due?
I have over 50,000 KMS on my 98 ZX6R.

Any advice?
Thanks

I\'m going to live forever; so far so good

OOps I should have searched past posts....

"I did not see your model year until now. Only on the 2003 bike should the valve clearance be checked every 15,000 miles, starting at 15,000 miles. On older bikes, the valve clearance is checked earlier and more often.

If there is no maintenance chart in your owner's manual, another older bike owner should chime in soon."

In other words....I guess I've been neglecting the maintenance on my bike [xx(]

From memory, the valve clearances should be checked every 20,000kms, which is the interval for the major service. "cough".

According to this page http://www.themcdonalds.net/richard/...t/valves.shtml, it should be done 12,000Km or rougly 7,500 miles. However, that is for my model '01 and not yours. I would say that if you've ridden the bike 20,000+km and haven't done it/had it done you definitely should.

Yea the 00-02 are 12,000km, so the 98 should be similar.
if you bike has 50,000km on it without a check, and you have not broke a valve, your lucky

I did mine last summer, not too difficult.
